I liked it and once again for those that didn't I feel sad for ya.
The Spoilerrific Super Duper Rogue One Megathread!
BTW, the plot and acting are garbage
They are garbage or you didn't like them? (those are actually two very different things.)
If first, them argument your claim, please (i.e. tell us why they are garbage). If latter then it's your opinion and you are entitled to have it.

This is how it begins.........oh so innocuously.......then the dark times come.........
Is it wrong that I actually liked the first half more due to the gritty war and occupation setting it had? I feel like I'm in a very small minority here.
No, the first half has Cassian ice the informant. The Rebel general give him secret orders to cross off Galen. Those are pretty cool story elements I thought. Really showcases there are not nice people on both sides in war.
The part that I liked was Krennic's visit to Vader. Vader's comment about the Death Star being great at causing problems was intriguing I thought. He scoffs at it in Ep 4 and comparing it to the Force. In Rogue 1 it seems almost more strategic or political and that he really thinks it's more trouble then it's worth. Is that Vader's real opinion? Is it Anakin subconsciously resisting? Who knows, but I liked it.

As for the acting (haven't seen it yet to judge) perhaps in their quest to give it the feel of Episode IV they chose to hire a lead with the skillset of Mark Hamill? /snark
A full cast of bad actors would be one thing, but a lead with poor skills is not exactly uncommon to Star Wars. Hayden, Mark, Natalie, I'm looking at you.
I shouldn't have come here. I might have breezed by some poor acting scenes with little notice amongst the rest of the awesomeness of the film until perhaps my 3rd viewing. Now my low will power may have me sitting there during the first viewing and perhaps being whisked back to reality with, "oh, there's what he was talking about....oh and there again". Dammit! ![]()
Also I thought Vader's castle was badassed. Mind you, why would you set up your home on Mustafar? That seems weird, living where you 'died'.
And while she didn't make an appearance, "General Syndulla" got name checked on Yavin. Was that Hera or her daddy?

Was it Mustafar? I don't remember seeing a title card for that scene, while every other planet they showed had it's name in the corner.
Maybe it was [insert generic lava planet]. ![]()
While it was badass I felt it was a tiny bit too much on the "Comic Book Villain Fortress"-side of things.

It seems like a great tie-in to his comic series, where he is blamed for basically everything that happened with it. Like he almost has a premonition about the Death Star causing trouble for him specifically.
Anybody else feel like Vader looked a bit off? His neck seemed super thick.
Or was that just me?

Tbh, I was wondering if it was just Korriban (the Sith origin planet? Did I get that right?). If I remember my old Legends Canon Directly, I think both he and Palpy had palaces there.

Yeah Vader did look a little off to me too. And some of his lines sounded weird but he was still terrifying.
Oh and the acting was not as bad as some people would have you think. It was just kinda campy in some spots.

In response to the first part, Ralph McQuarrie had done the images for Vader's retreat waaaayyyyy back in the early 70's for the first movie (back in the Starkiller days before Star Wars). George Lucas had always stated that Vader had set up a place of isolation in the midst of a volcanic world to reflect the inner anger and conflict of the character. He later used the ideas of this planet for Mustafar in Episode III. As for motivation to put your retreat on Mustafar as Vader, remember that it's mentioned many times that this is where Anakin "died" and Vader was truly born. It's the world where Anakin realized there really was no going back. Prior to Padme's "death" on Mustafar, there was always Anakin's belief he was only studying under Palpatine to save her, and when the time was right he would end the Emperor and restore peace and good to the galaxy. With Padme's death, that hope died, and Anakin along with it as he allowed himself to be consumed.
In response to the name check, that was Hera. The Ghost shows up in the subsequent battle above Scarif. When the large Rebel cruiser gets shattered and the smaller ships in front of it go into evasive maneuvers, the Ghost is in the middle right lower part of the screen making a hard nose dive.

It didnt say one way or the other, but checking other The Wookiepedia, it was Mustafar.
My bet? It was one more mind game the Emperor was playing. He was being a **** to Vader, setting his fortress on the site of his greatest defeat.
Anybody else feel like Vader looked a bit off? His neck seemed super thick.

Yeah, we noticed that too - that there was something not quite right the way that Vader's helmet sat on his shoulders. Like it was riding too low or something.

And while I didnt see it, TVTropes says that Chopper was on Yavin somewhere - so I am going to bet that the we actually saw The Ghost. Now if any of the crew beyond Hera and Chop are still around? No idea.

It was the cloak, not the neck that made it look weird, actually. In Rogue One, they used the right mold (which was different than the slimmer necked mold of the later movies) but had the cloak clasp under the neck as opposed to clasping over it. This made the neck look more prominent with a wider flare. If you look at Episode IV again, you'll notice that Vader's cloak clasp on top of the neck piece, and doesn't come out from underneath the neck until Empire. This combined with the original mold style (red eyes, wide neck) makes the appearance "off" to what you remember.

THANK YOU! My daughter and I will look for this during our second viewing tonight.
I haven't seen anything in the previews or trailers to make me think that Felicity Jones did a bad job or is a poor actor.
I had no issue with any of the characters (beyond Uncanny Valley Tarkin and Leia). They might not have been as developed as you might expect - but the writer got the job done.
Sigh. The free showing of Star Wars that my employer is taking me to is in 3D. I hate 3D

Edited by DesslokI wasn't impressed with the 3D show, it actually wasn't really noticeable aside from one scene - the one where the Star Destroyer emerges from the shadow of the Death Star. With it angled directly you, the length and depth of the Star Destroyer is really detailed and makes for a very impressive image.

So far in my life, I have seen one and only one movie in 3D that I thought was done well — Avatar.

For me it's that it just doesn't work, it's just blurry and makes my eyes strain.
Same with those "image hidden in dots" things they used to do where like a sailboat or something was supposed to show up if you stared at it just right.

/Rant on
Why pedantically point out the obvious?
People routinely state opinions without qualifying them.
The gracious parse them as such and take them for what they are.
We need not put open and close tags on every statement we make.
It clutters the language and condescends to those addressed.
They think the plot and acting were garbage.
Even the meanest of intellects can easily identify that as opinion seasoned with vulgar metaphor.
If you want to know why they thought the plot and acting were sub-par, just ask.
Otherwise, your just being passive-aggressively confrontational.
Edited by VondyBTW, the plot and acting are garbage
As opposed to insulting your opinion, or whining that you didn't qualify it as such, I'm going to ask:
Why do you maintain the acting and plot were of poor quality?
What, specifically, disappointed you and what would you have done differently?
Inquiring minds want to know.
I really enjoyed it. I didn't like it as much as TFA -- it's still a prequel, after all -- but I'm not going to feel weird about seeing it multiple times.
I couldn't help but think of these two scenes seeing the Monkey Alien firing from the side door in the U-Wing. Warning, as these are Vietnam War Flicks there will be some bad language, and some rather racially insensitive language.
