The Spoilerrific Super Duper Rogue One Megathread!

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have been looking forward to this film since it was announced - more so that TFA or Episode VIII. This teaser did not disappoint either!

Grand Admiral character? Who knows? I never liked the explanation that the "white shirt guys" (Like Colonel Yularin) are ISB. That was EU/Legends and the slate is now clean to give them a story. (Personally I believed they were another branch separate from the Ground Forces or Starfleet, but hey.)

Good to see Yavin IV and Mon Mothma. I am curious about this new general talking to Jyn. Noticed he was wearing a patch on his right arm similar, but different in the details, as the Hoth crew. Speaking of which, I noticed that the Rebel soldier we first see in the trainer escorting Jyn is wearing the same helmet insignia as some of the soldiers from the latest comic books. Nice tie in!

I do not think that is Biggs - doesn't work with the timeline. I think the rumor is his name is Cassien (sp?) Willix. First time we've seen a character in the Alliance with a 2-blue-pip rank insignia.

Best of all - new walkers!!! Woo-hoo!!!

Can't wait to get to Celebration London this summer!!!!

MTFBWY, A!

I doubt that admiral is Thrawn and honestly I hope not. I also find it unlikely to be Tarkin. To be honest I hope it's someone new as I love broadening the lore. I also hope Boba Fett doesn't make an apperance. Nor Han.

I do love Forest Whittaker though and so I'm excited that he's in the movie. And Donnie Yen as a force exile would rock. This looks like another movie with a strong female lead too so I'm thinking all good things are in store for us.

Thing 1- Pretty sure Grand Moffs are second only to the Emperor and Vader and are not below Grand Admirals in rank.
Thing 2a- Does the ISB flag officer's blaster look like the one Han gave to Rey?
Thing 2b- That trigger discipline!

IIRC, Grand Moff and Moff are political positions that hold quasi-military rank as well, while Grand Admiral is a military rank.

We'll see how it turns out, but right now Rogue One looks like 10x the movie that TFA could ever dream of being.

I thin it is funny to see how a lot of people did not learn from their TFA 'mistakes'. Everyone is still trying to draw parallels to Legends material and characters at every interval.

It's OK in moderation and when people are honest with themselves that it's wishful speculation... when people get that sort of angry-serious intensity that their pet hypothesis must be the One Truth of What's Going to Happen, then it becomes an issue, a potential flameout in a discussion.

Yeah, that is now two times in a few minutes I actually find myself in agreement with you... That is new! ;)

I want to see young Han Solo, Jyn, and Biggs start out at the Imperial flight academy together! A Chewie cameo wouldn't hurt either, and then the movie could get on with the business of stealing heavily guarded superweapon plans, and blowing things up.

Han Solo cameo rumor

The Han Solo cameo I read about involves Felicity Jones and her group looking to get a ride somewhere and they end up talking to Han briefly, who turns them away, but gives them an option of who to talk to.

That's Kyle Katarn.

"We don't actually know what his -"

YOU SHUT YOUR FILTHY MOUTH! THAT'S KYLE KATARN!

Wait. Is she wearing an Imperial pilot uniform?!?!?!?

Yes she is, though I suspect this is her disguise to get into the Imperial base and get the plans. It could be an indication that she goes dark, but I doubt it.

That's Kyle Katarn.

NO SIR IT IS BIGGS AND YOU ARE WRONG

No it's Dash Rendar!!!!!

Clearly it's Ash from Evil Dead, transported to the Star Wars-verse by the Necronomicon, because he heard they had great cybernetic hands, and much better boomsticks.

New droid character I am thinking, which is cool.

Wild fan speculation suggests that this is the character Alan Tudyk is playing .

I THINK IT'S BOBA FETT WITHOUT THE MASK.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

YOU'RE ALL WRONG!!! HE IS CLEARLY POE DAMERON'S FATHER!

Posting first then going back to read this thread. Sorry some of this may have already been covered.

From a game point I noticed lots of good stuff. From memory:

  • Stormtroopers riding in some sort of speeder tank. AoR core book is now missing a vehicle. :)
  • The obvious black clad Stormtrooper commando. AoR is now missing an adversary. :)
  • A not-quite Scouttrooper with some green coloring (looked again, I'm going color blind?) that made me recall prequel scout Clone Troopers. Stormtrooper vehicle crew? But, but, why not in AT-AT's or on Speeder bikes?
  • White clad Imperial officer is a Grand Admiral? But, coloring is what we've come to accept as an ISB uniform?
  • The lander on the "beach set" originally appeared to be similar to what we saw in Ep. 7. Now with the full digitized scene, they've sprouted massive wings (similar to Kylo's shuttle) so apparently are something much different.
  • Is that Vader going to a knee in the chamber with the Emperor's Guards?
  • is that a TIE fighter pilot outfit she's wearing at the end? Me thinks just a disguise, but the trailer is trying to make us think she's going to be a turncoat. What's that on her back?
  • Looks like we catch glimpses of the Yavin rebel base pre-Ep. 4. Very cool.
  • That dude still reminds me of Biggs Darklighter. But, the scene of Luke and Biggs on Tattooine that was filmed but tossed would have to be completely tossed to allow it without some major retconning.

Does no one think that Jyn is an alias and she's Leia Organa?

Nope.

Does no one think that Jyn is an alias and she's Leia Organa?

*In the tone of the stoned out kid in the back of the car in the opening scene of Super Troopers*

"Please no."

I want to see other people doing stuff in Star Wars. I personally don't mind if some force users showed up to some degree. Minor talents who are on the run from the Empire, I mean, it's been clearly established that this is a thing in the canon now, so not a big deal to me. But for the love of all things Forcey, let it be someone not the Skywalker family.

Does no one think that Jyn is an alias and she's Leia Organa?

Never occurred to me until you said it, and I see nothing to support such an idea.

Leia Organa is, or will be not long after the "date" of the events in this film, an Imperial Senator .

I want it to be Biggs, but I don't think it can be.

#1: We know he won't die. No suspense adding him to the team.

#2: Cut scenes from Ep. IV has Luke seeing the battle overhead to stop the Tantive IV from fleeing with the plans. Then, Luke races to town and meets Biggs. Biggs speaks about how he is going to join the Alliance. Going to. He hasn't yet. So you have to completely delete the deleted scenes from canon or massively retconn it somehow - Biggs has already been part of the Rebel Alliance for some time as he's been part of the Imperial Academy as a spy. He takes leave and participates in the events of Rogue One somehow. He and some other X-wings are escorting the Tantive IV as it flees with the plans. When Darth's star destroyer shows up, the X-wing escort is quickly destroyed or brushed aside. We see only the final part of the battle as the Star Destroyer is over-taking the Tantive IV after bypassing the X-wing escort. Biggs flees and survives by landing or crashing his X-wing on Tattooine. He quickly tosses his rebel pilot outfit for that of his flamboyant academy student outfit and meets up with Luke. Still incognito, he doesn't reveal to Luke that he has already joined the Alliance. When the Imperials leave Tattooine chasing a YT-1300, he gets in his patched up X-wing and heads back to Yavin.

Well on second thought that could be cool.

I've always had a problem with the Luke/Biggs Tatooine scene when coupled with the Luke/Biggs hangar scene. Biggs tells Luke that he'll be jumping ship for the Rebellion, but when Luke reaches Yavin 4 (say a week later), Biggs appears to be an established member of Red Squadron, so much so that his vouching for Luke allays any concerns Red Leader has about the farmboy who's just joined the squadron.
