Ghost and phantom strategy question....

By darkevans, in X-Wing

So I'm playing in the CAC event this weekend and I've decided I'm going to fly the ghost and phantom. I'm set on my ghost build

Hera- FCS, Auto turret, Navigator, Han, engine, title

The question is, do you think it's better to go with a naked phantom and use the remaining point to beef support, or beef up the phantom and use min support.

Right now I'm thinking a naked Zeb, and Jake as support, or a beefed up Sabine and a AT prototype.

What do you guys think??

You have to ask yourself this question... Why am I keeping the Phantom on board for?

Looking at your build you give the Ghost an autoturret which is only good out to range 1. If you plan on Ghost being in close range on most of your attacks then your good, you can effectively use the second attack repeatedly. A support fighter like Jake will come in handy.

However, if your trying to use the Ghost to chase down elusive arc dodgers such as Soontir Fel (based off your other choices for Ghost), then maybe beefing up the Phantom with the goal of a quick release after chasing the target into a corner would be the better option (and maybe looking at a ion turret on the Ghost for longer ranged strikes while moving the autoturret to the Phantom). If you go for the beef up perhaps changing who man's the Phantom will matter more.

It depends on your play style. The ability to keep a ship in reserve until the end game is often underestimated for example Sabine totally dominates lower PS ships but dies pretty fast to aces so if you are up against a list with one or two aces leading a swarm you can keep her safe in the Ghost's belly and focus all of your fire on dropping the aces to the detriment of all else knowing if that ace died before Sabine pops out the game is basically yours. If that is not the case then there is nothing stopping you from starting with them both in the board to boost your alpha strike. If you go the other route you can substantially boost your early game performance but this can also mean that if you loose the ghost you lose the game.

I think both of those options are valid - Jake fills the role that post-deployment Sabine would have in the other list, but keeping Jake alive is going to be tough unless you use his ability to dodge like crazy.

If you're running Sabine, I think she's the Shuttle pilot that most wants to run fully tricked out.

I kind of like the prototype for blocking in case your locals decide to fly torpedo jumpmasters.

I say beef up your support. Only leave the Phantom on when you think you will get a lot of people at R1.

FYI my Sabine is PTL Kyle Katarn, dorsal turret
