Gunslingers - Imperial High Rollers

By heychadwick, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I've had an idea for a list, but haven't really had the chance to fly it. I love Tie Fighters and think if they are flown well, they can be amazing ships. So, I built a list around reducing one of the weaknesses of the Tie Fighter: only 2 red dice.

The Inquisitor: V1, Juke, Auto Thrusters

Zeta Leader: Adaptability

Mauler Mithel: Adaptability

Scourge: Adaptability

Backstabber

They all boost their main attack die.

OK.....maybe not on the high tables of Worlds, but still a fun list to try to get good at.

Thoughts?

Looks good. Scourge actually probably wants to Adaptability himself down to PS 6 - shooting last with him is generally good.

One warning is that co-ordinating 5 ships with different PS values, most of which would really like to be at range 1, can get awkward.

Agreed on Scourge for most of the time. Think it could depend on the opponent, though. If I can fire before Bro Bots, I'll take it!

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the bumpage. I've been flying since Wave 1, even if I'm a bit rusty with a group of Ties. I happen to think Tie Fighters are best when they are actually swarming...not part of a formation.

Also, with Adaptability, there are 3 PS 8's, a PS 6, and Scourge can either be PS 8 or 6.

I like it, I've run Mauler and Scourge together, and it was a ton of fun dropping 4 dice from high PS sub-20 point ships. I imagine this would work pretty great as well.

I would need to play the heck out of it to figure out approach and such against different builds, but I think that's kind of fun.

It's a **** good list. The Inquisitor has an impressive amount of firepower and is really not a TIE fighter per se - the ability to pootle along at low speeds and fire at long range with impunity is amazing.

The 'elite TIE' list generally has 6 ships - the question will be if your two 'advanced TIEs' can make up for the lack of warm bodies for blocking people. Although I guess at PS6+ you're not planning on blocking too much anyway.

Well, you definitely don't need to fly this lot in a mob - Backstabber and Zeta Leader probably want to flank (one to get his bonus die, one so he can come in shooting on hard turns and not have to Koiogran or Segnor). Scourge and Mithel go up the centre, and the Inquisitor follows behind them in low gear - firstly to get long range shots, but also to block anyone trying to K-Turn in behind the TIEs.

Two of them can reliably get 3-dice attacks - the decider will be how many in a given turn of the other three get their extra die....

I've been testing something like this with a Palpshuttle - Inq, ZetaL, and Backstabber were the ones I chose as the easiest to get bonus dice of. Scourge I rejected because his ability seems like "Win more" unless you're shooting at Decis or VCXs. Mithel's dice is TOO situational and obvious. But Backstabber's easy to trigger, ZetaL only needs to be unstressed, and Inq is solid.

But your list does look fun. However, I keep thinking, "What if there were an Academy to block with by dropping Mithel or Scourge, that would give points for Crack Shot or other upgrades on the rest?"

After all, every table of high rollers needs a chump.

I think I'd drop Mithel over Scourge. Yes, he's winmore, but that bonus dice goes from range 1-3 and it's not hard to trigger - and sometimes it might be all you need to beat their evades.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback. Lots of good stuff....

Yeah, I wish I could squeeze in one more Tie Fighter to bring it up to 6. If I did drop someone, it probably would be Mauler Mithel. Still, I'd like to keep it in theme and also to try it out as is. I'm thinking Mauler can be flown different than the others. I almost want him in on the flank, as well. He's the guy to zip in and get close. If he is on the flank, he probably could get in closer and faster without getting all the shots in the face. Not all the other pilots would do that and I almost wish his PS were a lot lower. He would work better at PS 3-4, in my opinion, as he could go in for bumpage.

I do love low PS Academy Pilots for bumpage. It's just awesome. Still, if I were to ditch the theme and get rid of Mauler, I could probably come up with someone better. There are a lot of options that point. My go-to would be Dark Curse, which frees a few points up for EPTs. He's good because he can take point and people tend to fire on him first (forgetting his ability). Dark Curse can live a lot longer than expected. You kind of need something like that in this list as everyone is a bit fragile.

Personally, I love Adaptability for a list like this! All those EPT slots that are just sitting there. Free +1 PS on a bunch of Tie Fighters? Yes. please!

Family time has crushed any free time I've had lately and I haven't gotten a chance to fly much. I flew this list once, but did really poorly with it as I messed up with the Inquisitor. I'd love to try it again soon.
