Rapid fire Y wing

By roflmajog, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am relatively new to x wing, I only own the force awakens core set myself, but I can borrow stuff from my brother who owns one of every rebel expansion except the tantive. I have flown this list a few times and it has worked quite well, but it struggled against a scum swarm list. I was wondering if people could suggest any improvements to it.

Horton Salm + Twin laser turret + BTL-A4 + R2-D6 + Marksmanship = 35 points

Airen Cracken + Cluster Missiles = 23 points

Prototype Pilot + Proton Rockets = 20 points

Prototype Pilot + Proton Rockets = 20 points

Total = 98 points

The idea is to pick their most important ship and put as much damage onto it as possible before it can do much. The A wings fly to where they think they will be close to the border between ranges 1 and 2 of the target after it moves and focus. The headhunter stays back a bit but makes sure he is in range 1 of the As and target locks. The y wing stays further back and uses marksmanship.

If the target is slightly out of range of the a wings cracken uses his ability to boost them in when he shoots his cluster missiles, if they are in range 1 already they get an evade instead. Horton just does damage shooting 3 times each turn using his ability to reroll all blanks for all of his shots at range 2-3, with marksmanship essentially giving him focus for all of them too. Then the proton rockets do their thing an turn whats left of the ship into dust. Then you just move the y wing slow and let it do its thing again next round while the rest k turn to get behind the remaining enemy ships or maybe use an a as a blocker.

The a wings aren't worth much once the proton rockets are used but they are good blockers and one of them normally gets to hold onto the rockets and scare enemy ships away from it.

Horton and Airen are both pilot skill 8 too which helps when maneuvering them close to each other.

I belive you will get better results with Predator instead of markmanship on horton.

Also, you will have problems aiming those range 1 prockets agains higher PS ships (looking at you soonthir)

Predator is pretty useless due to Hortons pilot ability. Marksmanship makes his TLTs laser accurate.

Normally, predator is a good call with Twin Laser Turret, but not for Horton!

Those proton rockets are getting help though. Read Airen Cracken's pilot ability.

I think its not bad really. It has some bad matchups, but for the most part, it stands a chance against a lot of lists if you fly it right. I like the fact that the prototypes cannot be ignored. It takes some pressure off Horton (otherwise opponents would try to always kill him first).

Sorry, I forgot about hortons ability, as I rarely fly a non-gold Y. I guess i'll try that build today and see how it fares.

Marksmanship potentially procs for every one of Horton's attacks, right?

Yep, catch them at range 2-3, he essentially gets re-rolls on all blanks, and turns focuses to a crit and hits on all 3 of his attacks. Groovy. Not that the free crits matter with the TLT of course.

Yum, me likey that synergy.

I love the build seems solid. A-Wing Prockets are nasty. Love Horton's ability, just sad about his PS (thinking super aces) and the Y's dial. Marksmanship will be that one-turn-deciding-factor though if/when you get an Ace in Arc.
