Important Cataclysm Rules Question!

By Solan, in Talisman

I'm hoping I can get this question answered before I'm able to acquire Cataclysm. At the end of the rules, it says the Talisman cards should be in a facedown deck. Now I assume that means ALL Talisman cards, from all decks? In other words, you will never draw a Talisman card from the Adventure deck while using Cataclysm?

yeah poor wording here when the Cataclysm rules say "Talisman cards" they mean cards with a talisman or are a talisman (there is a actual "Talisman deck" see page 3) not all card from Talisman the game. When a player draws a talisman that is not a talisman card and it gets discarded then its still the card type and goes into its card type discard pile. So no.

Only the Talisman cards with the purple back go in its own separate pile. You do not have to remove any Talismans that are in the Adventure, Dungeon, Woodland, Deep Realms, etc.

I will say that the Talisman deck has gotten a little more interesting with these new cards...

The point of a facedown deck that needs to be shuffled is that the 6 Talisman cards that come with this expansion have special abilities.

That's why you have to mix them with the "old" purple base Talisman cards to get a random one.

Just had a read of the rulebook.

One thing I need to clarify about rolling on Denizen spaces:

With the example of the Carnival, does the character physically move to the Tavern space, or just encounter a Denizen card as if he was on that space?

Rolling on Denizen Spaces

Some spaces that once instructed players to roll dice (City, Tavern, Chapel, etc.) now have players draw Denizens. If

a card instructs a player to roll one die and use the listed results of another space, he instead chooses and visits a Denizen on the named space. If there are no Denizens on that space, then nothing happens. For example, if a character encounters the Carnival and is instructed to roll one die

with the same results as the Tavern, he instead chooses one Denizen at the Tavern and visits it.

So he does not move to the tavern he just encounters a denizen if there is one.

Thought so.

Just the way it was worded got me wondering.

Many thanks.

Please help! I have another DENIZEN question.

I 'landed' on the space " Visit the Chapel " where the text says "Draw one Denizen and add it to this space. Then visit...etc"

There is another Denizen there that matches the trait on the space (Chapel in this case so the this Denizen won't be discarded)

I would only discard a denizen - if the trait on its card does not match the location. Anyway..

So in my case, do I draw another Denizen card if there is one already there? So now there will be 2 Denizen cards?

What if another character lands on " Visit the Chapel" ...and draws another Denizen...soon there will be an invasion of Denizens?

Thanks guys...hope my question makes sense.

Another Question regarding encounters. (Talisman The Cataclysm)

I got the idea regarding a character encountering a draw card(s) space. (page 9 rulebook)

What I don't understand is a character encountering any other space..example below

I landed on Crags (roll 1 die space) and there was an enemy card and an event card. There was no other characters on that space so this means I encounter the space.

What is the correct order?

I land on Crags , and immediately roll 1 die? Then I do the Event and then the Enemy card? Or Enemy and then the Event

OR, first the Event, Enemy and then the space (roll 1 die)??!?

Am I right? Or partially?

The same day my wife stopped her movement in Forest (same thing, a roll 1 die space), with 1 monster and an event card on that spce and we didn't know what was the order of encounter. When do we roll the die?!

Please help.

I think you got the rules wrong there.

Cataclysm Rules, Page 5:

First, you always draw a Denizen card on these spaces.
Secondly, you then chose 1 Denizen on said space that you want to encounter.

It does not have to be the one that you drew or the one already on the space, it's
your choice.

Afterwards, if that Denizen does not have a matching trait, it will be discarded.
But only the one you've visited, not the others.

Yes, you can end up with multiple Denizen cards on one space. Most we had during one game
(so far) was 5 on 1 space, but only because of an event.

[By the way, the encounter sequence is on the back of the basic rule book.]

Encounters: If there are any cards on a space, but no character, you have to encounter
the cards in their correct order first (lowest number first, which - in your case - most
of the time means event first, then the enemy; but it depends on the numbers and the order),
afterwards, the space instructions itself.

Also; next time, it might be more useful if you create a new thread for your questions.
