Boba Fett - Three Weeks Later

By Princezilla, in X-Wing

He destroyed a homing missile on a Rebel corvette during an epic game. That alone made him worth his pay! :)

better drop the orndnance tubes card

SUDDENLY THE MISSILES ARE ONE USE ONLY

MWAAHAHAAHA

I... never realized... oh boy, this is rather epic shattering.

Once an Epic ship starts taking crits, it isn't long for the table anyway.

I had a
Bossk: Mangler, Boba + Greedo

It was pretty nice. I would say the highlight was removing a turret from a ghost, or Deadeye (EPT) from a Uboat. [really screwed up his volly which was pretty nice]

I've played against Boba crew once and he pulled Gonk off my JM5K. That was a real bummer....

While the implications of his existence are scary, he's a 1pt card, and correctly costed at the price.

You don't hear about him much because a 1pt card is, well, a 1pt card.

Dengar is an awesome card too, but he doesn't make the news because he's handy, not meta-shaping. ;)

Well it was odd because prior to his release people were convinced that he /would/ be meta-shaping.

Wasn't he used in the final of the hoth open?

He was on the list. I recall him using it in a previous round for sure.

Boba disintegrated the Emperor in my top 8 match and the finals match. Over the 12 games I played at Hoth I think I disintegrated 6 Emperors. None of them survived a Boba disintegration. It was very satisfying to watch my opponents instinctively reach to their green dice to adjust them with Palpatine, and then watching their body language as they realized he was no longer available to them. :)

Boba is really good to take a problem card off the board. I also used Boba to remove a C3P0 from a Han Solo in Round 3and the ATC from Darth Vader in my top 4 match. I had Dash lined up and prepped to remove his HLC in Round 6, but Dash got a lucky Direct Hit crit with his TL'd HLC to get 5 hits on Boba's scout to kill him before I got the shot off.

Boba more than earned his keep.

I've only played a handful of games against a list with Boba Fett crew, but I got nailed by it most of the time. Lost the Ghost title on my VCX-100 in two of those games, which was a major blow. It seems like an obviously good upgrade to me, especially on the YV-666.

I don't think a Scum build should go without him, it can completely change the game state and ruin your opponents day.

Had a match in which my opponent used Chopper to race in at R1 of my YV and I tagged him with Boba crew. He was stressed and the only good maneuver he had was a 5k (he got weapons failure so his autoblaster was reduced to 1 die, hardly scary). He had Hera crew, so I booted her off. Essentially he was unable to shoot again even though it took 3 more rounds to kill him.

Had another match in which I booted ATC off Vader. Yea he had two hull left and was dead in a couple turns, but that completely neutered him and didn't allow him to get some lucky crits in to get back in the game.

Also anyone that claims "if you're landing a crit that ship is pretty much dead already" must have never flown against Soontir Fel. I've seen him take 2 hits first round and survive to win the match. Boot the PTL and watch how easy he is to kill.

He's been flying shotgun with Dengar in the Punishing One for the last few games I've played and so far I've only actually seen him earn his keep once when he rescued a Rebel Captive from a Decimator. That was a lot of fun though and so I think I'll be keeping him employed at least until he gets the chance to disintegrate the Emperor for me.

I highly doubt Boba 'rescued' the Rebel Captive :D

Fixed.

Theres a toss up with boba v high agi ships like soonts, who may take a crit and still go onto solo your list,

Boba stops the soloing from happening, but another 1 point might've helped you hit/hurt soontir more

I took a TLT off a Y-wing and then ioned him off the board, and in another game I took a TLT off the Ghost. :)

A paid job is a paid job.

I don't think it's a question of him being worth 1 point, it's a question of how he stacks up to whoever else you'd cram into the crew slot.

So far I've proc him on 2 of the 3 game I had him. Off a TLT from Miranda and R2-D2 crew on Leebo. Should have kill Leebo's Determination, though, as the dude somehow neglect 4 killing blow simply by getting a pilot crit.

Boba's a good card; but scum have a lot of good, fairly cheap crew that competes. 4LOM at least is a really close competitor for the same slot, Zuckus is a really solid last resort crew, or could be used multiple times if you never need to take an action again, and both are comparable because they will likely see limited, but effective use in a game.

I guess the hardest part about Boba is that he only triggers on a successful crit, which might mean he would never see use in a game. Though the points isn't a huge issue, usually crew is on the ships that can take one.

In a recent tournament, I ran a list which included a Trandoshan Slaver with Greedo/Boba/Dengar crew. Over the course of five games, I used Boba to destroy

- R2-D2 from Corran Horn

- TLT from Kyle Katan's HWK

- Engine Upgrade from a non-U-boat JumpMaster

- R2-D2 from Poe

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with that. In another game on Vassal, he would have zapped Kavil's turret, if Kavil hadn't died first from the tripple-crit hit he took.

He's situational, sure, and like others have pointed out, by the time he triggers the target is already bleeding. But if he destroys the right card, like R2-D2, Plap og a key EPT, he's well worth the price and use of crew slot.

That new article on FFG's page about the Hoth Open showed that Fett removed the Emperor in the final game and swung it in his favor.

Should've been two points, or only able to take out other crew.

Hrm... I give you... The One Hit Wonder: Zuckuss (28), Crack Shot (1), Boba Fett (1), Glitterstim (2) for a total of 32 points.

Well, Boba has me thinking about taking shield upgrade on howlrunner instead of the usual hull.

Should've been two points, or only able to take out other crew.

The crits-only requirement makes the point value fair. The crew-only would've made him barely worth zero points; there's a whole lotta ships out there with no crew at all.

This says nothing of Paul Heaver's initial design goal with the card being "Man, I'd love to shoot the engine upgrades off enemy Falcons..."

And why not Boba? He can sneak on and set a thermal detonator. Or maybe he did a little surreptitious sabotage before they ever reached the fight; the crit was all it took to finally pay its price. I mean, gamewise you didn't know which ship it was until it happens, but obviously Boba's just that good at planning ahead. ;)
