For tournaments, can you add scum to any build?

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If I have a rebel build can I use scum ships?

No. Scum is an independent faction, just like Rebels or Empire.

You can use Scum models and dials for Rebel ships (and vice versa) if you only have those versions (so Y-Wings or Z-95s)

BUT, you still have to have the correct pilot cards and base chits.

Scum ship = scum pilot card and base token.

Z-95 = model w/ base and dial.

The Scum faction does not mix with Rebels or Imperials who in turn don't mix with each other.

The model you are using for a ship does not matter provided that the pilot card and base tile are for the correct faction.

If I have a rebel build can I use scum ships?

Or to put it another way, "If I have a rebel build, can I use Imperial ships?"

Answer: No. There are three different factions and they do not mix. You cannot mix Scum pilots with a Rebel or Imperial squad.

As stated above, the only exceptions are the Z-95 and Y-wing that come with the Most Wanted pack, but you must have the Rebel pilot cards and ship tokens for them.

I have two Scum Z-95s but because my local store has been out of stock of Rebel Z-95s for some time, I haven't been able to buy any yet, so I can't use the Z-95s in a Rebel build, becasue I don't have any Rebel Z-95 pilot cards.

In all honesty, how is this even a question? The core rules make it quite clear that Scum are their own faction.

And it has been abundantly answered above that ship models and dials can cross over as long as all other components are from the faction you are playing.

Look at the OP. What is he actually asking? His question does not say scum pilots, but scum ships.

I took this as - Can you add Scum Pilots and ships to a Rebel or Imperial build?

Either way, I hope that the OP got answers to clarify it.

It would be an interesting wrinkle to see X-Wing add something like the cards in Imperial Assault that allow Rebel and Imperial squads to add Scum units. I imagine it would have to be pretty heavily costed to make up for some of the combos that would be possible though.

It would make some interesting builds if for a "penalty price" you could hire a limited number of points from the scum faction to your faction. After all that seems to be what both the Imperials and Rebels did.

Yes but at what price? Maybe adding Scum ships looks appealing but what about just using faction specific upgrades which presumably would cost much less?

But the Title of the thread asks the question differently - Can you add Scum to ANY build?

You all have answered it quite clearly. I did not realize that Fett had a scum AND imperial card which made me think that scum pilots and ships can be added to either side, like the fringe faction in Star Wars Miniatures by Wizard.

Same with the z95.

There was a fringe faction in SWM?

Oh, the actual miniatures game and not the SSB game which did have "scum" ships but they were already assigned to the Light or Dark sides. The base skirmish game had its fringe faction which could operate with anyone else but we should remember it also had eight other factions which generally did NOT mix or only mixed on certain occasions.
