U boote...but why U boote?

By Hexdot, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I don't know if people thinks in early small coastal subs, adaptable U VII large U IX that predated us coastal shipping or late model Walther subs.

But...why U boote ? Ask japanese merchantmen and IJN crewmembers their opinion about USN subs, the silent service. Of course the german subs obtained well deserved fame, but from May 43 onwards they were completely outdated. The US Silent Service grew to finish the war as the masters of the deep.

So we may call the "Gato"...

Possibly the shape of the jumpmaster might contribute.

.....wait....

Did somebody say....

BOOTY?

I assume the C shape of the ship makes people call it a U boat. :P

I'll stick with croissant.

Because there were more wars than WWII and more theatres than the Pacific.

Yes, of course. And U bootes were key weapons in both world wars. But when people hears the word "Submarine" they think in a VII with a white caped captain looking throught the scope...

No. No, they really don't.

Well, maybe, on your side, but over here not so much.

I personally hate the nickname 'u boat' for the jumpmaster.

If it could cloak it would make sense but naming it that because of its shape is a bit wierd.

To me 'phantoms' were 'u boats' and 'wolfpack' lists.

Like submarines they stay hidden, pop up, attack , dive into the blackness again.

If the jumpmaster is a tanky high probability ordnance launching/cannon bearing craft to me its more like a stuka or sturmovik if were going to use weak WWII analogies.

I honestly thought before i bought one that the jumpmaster had some sort of cloak mechanism and that why people were called them uboats and wolfpacks.

Agree 100%, Phantoms are like subs in x wing. Well, or little "Birds of Prey"...

A Kfghfhujhjk fighter with ilicit cloack.is now even.more Klingon...

Round here, I think most people think of a Lithuanian captain with a Scottish accent. :) I have no idea what you're referring to. :)
