Timing question

By Estarriol, in X-Wing

This one has been bugging me for a while.

I keep a timer on my games. Time expired, but the TO was caught in a rules query and didn't hear the clock on his laptop.

It mattered that the round finished that turn as I was nursing a loss, and another round would have seen me tabled. I called the game. Should I have waited for the TO? My opponent looked annoyed but said nothing and we had after all played the correct length game.

I wouldnt get upset if someone called time for me because I was too caught up with a player question to notice.

It's 75 mins. Plus if you have already started a round you finish it. No more, no less. You did the right thing. It's as much up to the players keep track as much as the TOs.

This is telling of a major problem in Xwing. The players are equally responsible in making sure that the integrity of the game is held as much as the TOs. Too many people feel the need to be babysat while playing in a tournament.

What you did was fair and within the core set of the rules. For your opponent to think you need to keep playing because you haven't been told to stop is exactly what it sounds like. Childish.

If you both agreed to run by the timer that you set, within the round's "timeslot", there's no issue.

If neither you or the TO specified which timer to use, you have a problem.

The great thing about tournaments is that everyone plays under the exact same conditions. If you played on and were tabled, that may give a disadvantage to someone that stopped when they heard the alarm go.

Finish the round. Wait for time to be called and the game ended before you actually begin any extra rounds.

Maybe some people would have tried to squeeze in an extra round but if the timer was up I see no reason to continue beyond the current round especially if there is no benefit to doing so.
