Defender input

By Darth Zuiver, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Im a relativly new xwing player and would like to get some opinions on the following two lists I'm working on

Colonel Vessery : VI, Tractor Beam, TIE/D

Inquisitor: Autothrusters, TIE/v1

Alpha Squadron: Autothrusters

Epsilon Squadron:

I can drop VI on Vessery for Twin Ion, and then add adaptability to both him and the inquisitor to get both their PS to 7, I really want Vessery to shoot 1st so the rest of the list can abuse the tractor beam.

(I've had two games with this list so far and it has done pretty well)

2nd list

Colonel Vessery: Ruthlessness, Tractor Beam, Twin Ion, TIE/d

Inquisitor: Juke, Autothrusters,Tie/v1

Darth Vader: Adaptability, ATC, TIE/x1

basically, 2 arc dodges pummeling the enemy while Vessery move them around and try abuse ruthlessness without killing my own ships.

Opinions welcome.

Vessery w/ Ruthlessness + tractor beam + TIE/D = 39 points of pure destruction. He's definitely a monster. You don't really need TIE mk 2. Its really not necessary on Vessery (but go ahead and throw it in if you have points for it).

I've been using him in 2 lists:

Fel & Vess

Vessery w/ ion cannon, ruthless, TIE/D + hull = 44

Fel w/ PTL, title, thrusters & target comp = 34

Epsilon Ace w/ comm relay = 20

98

Eppy Ace is an excellent TL babysitter for Vessery. Cheap and at PS 12, he always can get a lock. Vessery w/ ion cannon does LESS damage than w/ Tractor beam. But with higher PS wingmen, Tractor doesn't make sense. The added control from the ion means its easier for your ships to arc-dodge, though, so it works out well.

Onyx Vessery

Vess w/ tractor, ruthless, TIE/D = 39

2 onyx defenders w/ X-7 title = 30 x 2

99

You need a slight initiative bid so that Vessery doesn't just get vaporized vs IG88s. This list would struggle to get TLs for vessery during the first turn if you try to joust. Instead, you have to fly it a little cautiously, drawing your opponent into the rocks. Don't worry about a poor first round of exchange (for example, one or two of your ships are out of range) as long as your opponent is shooting range 3 or through a rock at an onyx sitting on focus + evade, it won't matter. Next round, one Onyx will have slipped in close. The other will be out of arc for most if not all of your opponents and therefore can TL easily. Vessery will have moved into range of some enemies (but not all). Just make sure at least 1 onyx can shoot at the same target as Vessery (or use tractor to make it happen) and you will do fine.
