I say go for it. Sounds like an awesome challenge to keep them all from bumping.

Unfortunately according to the tournament rules FAQ you "may not have more than eight small ships of the same ship type (TIE fighter, A-Wing, etc.) in any squad."

But there's no reason you can't chuck in some TIE/FOs to make up the numbers.
