2 VCX lists for tournament

By XBear, in X-Wing Squad Lists

which one of the two lists below you think is stronger? feel free to suggest small tweaks.

Lothal Rebel (35)
Reinforced Deflectors (3)
Hera Syndulla (1)
Ezra Bridger (3)
Han Solo (46)
Predator (3)
C-3PO (3)
Gunner (5)
Millennium Falcon (1)
Total: 100

or

"Chopper" (37)
Fire-Control System (2)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
Hera Syndulla (1)
Ezra Bridger (3)
Ion Projector (2)
Kanan Jarrus (38)
Reinforced Deflectors (3)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Recon Specialist (3)
Recon Specialist (3)
Total: 99

I kinda like this:

Kanan Jarrus (38)
Fire-Control System (2)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
"Chopper" (0)
Recon Specialist (3)
Guidance Chips (0)
Chewbacca (42)
Predator (3)
Jan Ors (2)
C-3PO (3)
Total: 100
There's a few synergies here. Kanan has reduced blind spots and can use Recon Spec even after a K-Turn. Both ships can start tanking pretty heavy if they become the primary target. Chewbacca can focus into an evade + C3P0, and Kanan can help reduce incoming offense. Kanan can Recon Spec then convert 1 to an evade if Jans Ors is within R3, then spend the remaining focus to activate his ability. Both ships should hit with solid accuracy. Both ships are PS5, so you can choose your activation order for greater maneuverability.

I haven't had enough experience flying dual VCX lists (or flying against them) but my gut says you need more offensive buffs (mainly in the form of attack dice modification) for both lists. Reinforced deflectors takes away points that can go toward offense. I might run reinforced deflectors if I had just one VCX with 3 other small ships attacking and taking pressure off the VCX but that's not the case here.

A common trap with "dual tanks" is that people try to buff their weak defense instead of making them as offensive as possible. If you have a list with two tanks then accept that your defense is your crazy high hit points; try to avoid lining up for perfect focus firing from your opponent but try to deal as much damage as you can as fast as you can.

there are also anti-synergies: you need 2 TL to fire the torpedoes, but if Kanan takes a TL he cannot focus (wasted ability+ rec spec for that turn). Jan Ors lets you evade but Kanan has a natural evade action (you only gain a focus token), and the falcon can have evade with the title, which is 1 point cheaper than Jan.

you have a point and so far I was running the VCX with fire control system, however I noticed, and it may just be my bad flying, that against small manouverable aces, they arc dodge so you may have to fire at somebody while your TL is on someone else. at the same time the VCX gets melted and even 4 dmg from a VCX per turn is not killing fast enough, so I thought the reinforced deflectors would help stay alive longer and deal more damage. especially, with the popular 3 scout torpedoes alpha strike, the deflectors should help, otherwise they'll focus a VCX down for a potential 12 damage in the first round. that's why I only put FCS on Chopper in my list where Kanan can use his 3 focus tokens to reduce damage from the alpha strike directed at chopper.

so perhaps gunner is better than FCS.

Kanan will not need to take a TL to fire the torpedoes. That's a valid concern, but he has FCS on his ship in this build. Anytime he fires on a ship after the first attack, he'll be able to launch torpedoes. This increases his range of fire from the rear arc, as well. If you're not super concerned about turning the Ghost into an enhanced firespray, you can pull the munitions.

It's true that the Falcon can take the title to give itself access to evade for 1pt less than by taking Jans, but by doing it this way, Kanan is able to use one action to get both Focus AND Evade, by converting one token from Recon Spec to an evade. This gives Kanan the maximum amount of defense per action (against a single enemy). Now, against a single attacker, Kanan can spend an evade token and also have a focus token for his ability. Otherwise, he'd have 2 focus tokens or a single evade token.

The list has room for personal customization. I just think that this gives you the largest variety of options on a given turn.
