By Arowmund, in Star Wars: Armada

I'd like to take a moment in the midst of all the grumbling, griping, and fresh wish-listing (all of which I am just as guilty of) and suggest we take a moment to say "Thank you" to FFG.

They've given us a solid game with a beloved license. They've given us ships we expected, and ships we never expected. They even not only gave us the highly unlikely GR-75 some of us were clamoring for, they gave us new mechanics to give it an actual solid role in our fleets.

They'll never please us all, and we'll always want more than they give us...but dang it, they've done a pretty darn good job so far. And they deserve to be acknowledged for that.

Nice work FFG. :)

I can toast to this.

Here here

Now if they'd just give me an easy way to get loads of SW7's and TRC's that would be great.

Just look at Attack Wing to be most thankful how FFG made Armada.

Amen!

It's been a great ride and what better way to spend a Sat.

If the game is good, it will live. Somehow, some way.

(looks at ebay auctions for wizkids star wars stuff)

IF the game is good...

Well said sir! I could happily enjoy this game for years to come if NO more expansions were ever released. It's well made, balanced, and loads of fun. Plus, I have a toy Star Destroyer. How awesome is that!?

That said. I can't wait to get my hands on those Flotillas! And I look forward to what is in store next!

Good work :D

now make more

I am thoroughly happy about armada. After wanting a fleet Star Wars game for years, it is wonderful to have. Very happy to see wave three, and appreciate that I can actually do a lot of customizing with this game:)

Well said, everyone!!

I am psyched for the flotillas. They are really going to shake things up, IMO.

Well put. Good to see that, barring a vocal minority, the majority of us appear to stand behind the game.

good to see this kind of post. **** near a perfect game. Love it. They could never release another thing, and I'd be fine with it. That's how perfect it is. Anything more we get is just Unicorns and sprinkles

Is that a Unicorn-class Corvette and Sprinkles MKVII Dreadnaught? Terrifying prospect...

lol...I think it was a Unicorn Interdicter. But I do like the Sprinkles Dreadnaught.

Trades, man! There are people out there willing to trade for **** near anything. I got enough SW-7's for my 8 CR90B's by trading out alt art cards I had lying around and trash (got 2 in exchange for 2 Point Defense Reroutes...)

You got this:

This is actually a remarkably apt comparison, and I completely agree with you.

The unicorn poo ad isn't big or flashy, but it advertises a product I actually really want, because I think it would fundamentally improve the way I do things right now.

The Carlton ad looks impressive and probably cost a lot to make, but there's no substance behind it, because it's just pushing sh*tty beer.

And I'm here...

.. Sitting in Calgary...

.... Really wishing I could grab a Carlton Cold... Or a Vic Bitter... Hell, even a Melbourne Bitter if I could...

... But nooooooo.

I can't get anything even remotely Australian in this frigid hemisphere...

.... Curse you Nelson, for bringing that up... Its going to be a trigger for me, now...

... Ima go sob in the corner now.

....

P.S. Armada is ::sob:: Awesome.

Have to admit I almost didn't buy Armada at all. The long ago wounds caused by Renegade Legion Leviathan still haven't healed completely. So glad I took the chance, I really needed a new addiction

Well at 6,397 RLL game in the world that is to be expected. Armada is #182 so the odds of you liking it are significantly better.

Boardgame geek is a go to resource when learning about games. Reviews, videos, cost, trading, best player count, average time, etc.

Plus, since the board game revolution over the last 10 has occurred, designers have been learn a lot about what works and what doesn't. Not only is FF a major company, but they were working from a successful model: X-wing. The upgrade card system is what make the game tick and is the major carry over.

It is much easier to make an informed decision than many years ago.

I didn't realize Renegade Legion was still around to be rated. I had bought it in the 90's when it first came out. You want to talk about disappointment

What was the issue with Renegade Legion, exactly?

The tank game and the space fighter game rocked.

leviathan was their capital ship game and was completely phoned in. To start with you ships came in four sized each of which had it's own printed cardboard box as a counter. The smallest was the size of one hex, the largest 4 hexes. For rules they were all considered to take up the rear hex of the box. The extra size had nothing to do with maneuvering or combat, it just was. Laser turrets did almost nothing and damage was mostly done by salvos of missiles, which each class ship had in varying amounts. First person to get a missile salvo destroyed the enemy ship. A complete waste.
