Have you tried any co-op games? Sherlock Holmes - A Consulting Detective has been a big hit. And somewhat surprisingly XCOM and Zombicide: Black Plague too.
The co-op nature makes for a more shared gaming experience (you win or lose together) and minimises the opportunity for tension (Nah Nah! You lost! or trouncings based on better game system and 'tricks' knowledge)

Thats actually a pretty good idea, I think I'll have to get over to BGG to do some research now. Maybe HotAC could also work.

Though yes, she would be my best friend, but it would be a really, really close call ;-), though romance and friendship are fundamental different even outside of sex.
Reducing romance just to sex sounds like a rather limited view. If you really wanted to make a point you could have removed just sex, but keep the gender of your partner. Romantic and sexual attraction are linked, so switching gender is problematic, though some transgender relationship have indeed outlasted even a sex change.

This is actually one game that my girlfriend doesn't find that appealing. She is quite big into games, but X-Wing just doesn't seem to be one that grabs her attention. Oh well, she does like Imperial Assault quite a bit more than me.
