I'm already looking towards Wave 4

By Gottmituns205, in Star Wars: Armada

Alright...guys...wave 3 is coming....it's the appetizer you ordered at TGI Fridays...and the server is there asking you what you want for your main course.

C'mon don't be shy...you're date's not putting out one way or another so you might as well go deep with the chilly cheese fries and a hot side of bomber command.

Me personally...Wave 4 is gonna be the wave we see both sides get a major shake up in combatant roles.

You notice the Rebels are a broadside drive fleet...it's their bread and butter. The Empire is all about dat fat front Arc....yet we see ships on both sides (mainly the Nebulon and Gladiator) that kinda steps outta those roles and makes you wonder...

Honestly I'd like to see the Rebels bring the Assault Frigate Mk 1 and the MC80 Liberty to the table...they would flat out be long range sniper ships that could honestly break the strangle hold that Ackbar has got and maybe just maybe those Nebulons might show up in some more lists.

Empire wise...I think we could use some more broadsiders...what I don't know to be honest.

I still want Vindicator Heavy cruisers for the empire. Couldn't really care less for the AFmk1. I think its ugly.

*Unless its the variant that looks like a neb B2. I would like that*

Probably the most likely variant TBH.

Imperials need +1 more ship than the rebels have.

If only....if only she was a true Venator I'd have been on cloud city...

What would you add?

Vindicator for the Empire.

Vindicator for the Empire.

That would be a rather cool add on.

People always talk about how dominant Ackbar is but I almost never see him in our tournament play here in NC. We must have an entirely different meta than the rest of the country. Mon Mothma gets the most love, followed by Iblis or Dodonna.

what most people don't realize is that all ackbar does is let you for your forward arc red dice with your side arc. Most of the time that's not even a good thing. All for the very cheap 38 points

Utar Assault Frigate MK 1.....I'm considering buying it Wes...whatcha think?

I have a couple of them. You wont be sorry if you have them.

Id like to see more flotilas! This time instead of fleet support but introduce another game changing mechanic such as Fleet Escort where the flotilla can screen ships against enemy ship attacks.

I'd like to see a medium ship for each side that has a game changing mechanic like 'Battle Groups' where if you take the Battle Group upgrade ships 1-5 of the command ship gain a benefit of some kind. Like say 'Carrier Battle Group' all ships can activate a squadron in addition to their command dial or 'Battleship Battle Group' all ships 1-5 can add one red dice whilst attacking.

Because lets face it having new big ships that just throw dice at whatever is boring and doesnt change much about the game.

That's a very solid point. Big scary dice throwers = gunnery teams and the same ole boring combos!

Maybe it's time for the "rise of the carrier"

ECM is something that has been discussed for the Interdictor to use. Imagine a medium cruiser that functions as a line of sight block and can not be targeted by capital ships; fighters only (talk about a pita!). Or if the Empire got a Minelayer to help cut down on the mobility of the Rebel ships.

Perhaps a "battle group" tactic could be something similar to how the Stormtrooper combined fire worked in the old WEG rpg? "Combined Fire: Select a ship in the group to fire, add 1 red (or blue or black, whatever) die to its attack value for each additional ship in the combat group. This counts as an attack for all ships in this group."

Suddenly "weak" ships can hit pretty **** hard, but are glass cannons. And as they are taken out, their offensive strength suffers quickly. Just a thought.

--edit--

Whatever they do, I hope they build around and upon what they already have. I don't want to see the current ships put to pasture because they are "replaced" or left behind by the game they help build.

On a side note, already wish-listing wave 4 seems...well, a bit pretentious? Ungrateful? Make no mistake, I'm guilty as well. Just...I guess I think it would be better if we focused more on new mechanics that might/could add to the game that might be coming down the line instead of what smacks more like "I didn't get the ship I wanted!"

:)

--edit--

Though thank you for looking at wave 4 instead of being snarky and looking ahead for "wave 3 since we didn't get it." ;)

They had to slow it down so that way when they release the next faction we wont have so many "catchup" waves loaded with the new faction.

Considering Mel for a vindicator if only I could paint.

More starfighter types would be cool. Maybe more flotilla types will added boarding actions so you could hijack enemy ships, or at the very least stop that ship from performing a certain type of action. having an ISD disable and than swallow a CR90 than have a flotilla re-crew that ship for use.

You friggen bite your tongue!!!!

...although...

"Unaligned Forces" anyone? I suppose this would open up the Corporate Sector, Hapan, and who knows how many others. *shakes head* No...must resist...Dark Side!

Seriously though, if they ever brought a "third faction" to Armada (which I personally think would be a big mistake) I pray they do it as a mercenary force; non-aligned ships that can be deployed by either faction that use unorthodox methods. Thing is, I don't see this making a lot of sense for the Imperial side.

I agree about staying away from a third faction. I do like the idea of a mercenary type force that either side could use.

What would you add?

Imperials:

Interdictor (Medium base)

Arquittens (Small Base)

Quasar Fire-Class Cruiser-Carrier - (Medium Base)

Rebels:

Pelta - Small Base

Hammerhead Corvette - Small Base

Special Double Pack - The Katana Fleet (Standalone release - NOT part of a wave).

Comes with TWO Dreadnaughts, and enough materials to field TWO of them, for EITHER Rebels or the Empire. Each has a slightly different look but they are of the same class. This will also come with some Heir to the Empire based stuff, like Thrawn, Pellaeon, the Chimaera title for ISD, and some other cards from the Heir to the Empire trilogy.

Additional stuff for another wave:

Liberty

Super Star Destroyer (I know it's crazy but I still wanna see it somehow! someday!)

Finalizer (Once we get more future timeline ships to balance it)

The Quasar is gonna be both Imperial/Rebel

and we alllllll know they just gotta add the Venator

There is also the broadside cruiser and the Marauder cruiser as well.

Also the Acclimator if we're gonna follow the empire at war route.

I also wouldn't mind a scum faction...

Oh I dunno. Only ONE quasar was ever stolen by the rebels (As far as we know). To me that still makes it an Imperial ship. certainly could be though I suppose.

Thing is, it is now shown iconically from this point on, with the primitive Rebel-Firebird Iconography...

Kind of like how the Neb-B is an Imperial Ship, but iconically a Rebel one...

Very little difference, as it is all perspective.
