Have not read the last 29 pages but has anyone pointed out that the reason there are few women playing this game is because, as my wife would say, its just a sill game with plastic things and dice and its not that intresting?

The game is interesting, it comes with star wars toys, star wars is awesome. So the game is alone for the models awesome.

To be fair, such a generalization about a community is sound. If the amount of jerks to deal with is to high the community as a whole loses all value, even if it consists 90% of angles. It's not saying "you all suck", it is saying "this as a whole sucks for me and is not worth the negatives for me". And the escalation in the last 18 hours or so paints the community in a bad light indeed. Fundamentalism and us vs them simply sucks.

So don`t get caught up in it. It`s why we were both sensible enough to f**k off when Gamergate reared it`s ugly hydralike array of heads.

16 years together now, my wife brought me into X-Wing, my Age of Rebellion GM is buying the X-Wing Mini's as well and she is quite often trying to mansplaine videogames to me, because she has not noticed that I am a core gamer yet. ;-)

Not a fan of changing gender of words based on gender of who is doing it. I do not mind having gender neutral words instead though. Mansplaining seems to be rather new and I am not aware of an other englisch expression that is so fitting ;-)

edit: And it might be the right moment to lock this topic, 31 pages is to long to get decent yield of reasonable and productive post from late comers. Most of the newest aggressive post are trying to deal with stuff that was been dealt already in the last 10 page, because they quit reading and started replying after page 1-5. I am guilty of doing this myself very often too, it is the nature of the internet and long topics.

The general lack of female miniature gamers (for whatever reason) may make incidents less prevalent in this area of tabletop games. I know RPGs can certainly see, at the least, harassment and in other fora there are discussions about card games, miniature wargames etc running as a result of the blog article.

While there may be dispute about the pervasiveness of the issue (or the rhetoric employed) any actions that have the effect of making individuals uncomfortable – or worse – should not be tolerated in any community.

It is clear that some individuals have experienced problems that directly affect them - so we should act to eliminate them, rather then focus on the extent of those problems. If even only one female player believes there is an issue action should be taken by everyone where such situations arise, even if they happen to be rare. The same should be true of actions that adversely affect other individuals or groups.
