Millenium falcon??

By Mcpolle, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi guys, just picked up the falcon, because, well its kind of iconic.

But my question is, is it still layable now with wave 8 hitting?? I have not seen anyone using it, so is it that crate of old junk, and needs to be on the shelf, or is it still competitive??

Cheers

I just played a Ghost/Falcon combo today and it went very well. While they focused on the big shiny Ghost the Falcon got behind and rolled a lot of 4 dice turrets with Han and Gunner.

TLTs etc have brought the Falcon down from its glory days as the best ship in the game but it is still solid, iconic and fun to play. Fat Han is one option but I tend to like a tanky Chewie build with title, C-3PO and maybe Predator. Comes in at just 49 points and your opponent really has to grind it down to kill it. The trick is to field it with other ships that take effort to remove such as regenerators, Kanan flying the Ghost etc.

What is a "Fat Han" build??

What is a "Fat Han" build??

"Fat Han" is used as short-hand for a fully tooled up Falcon. I think it normally includes the Falcon title, Engine Upgrade (for boosting out of arcs with Han's PS9), C-3PO (for damage limitation), Gunner (or Luke) for extra shooting if you miss and either Veteran Instincts (for PS11) or Predator (as if you didn't have enough rerolls when shooting already).

This type of Falcon build was (and still is) very popular as it could barrel forward quickly. C-3PO and Engine Upgrade and the Falcon title helped to mitigate damage. Han's ability to reroll attacks stacks with the second attack from Gunner/Luke meaning that his shooting had a good chance of burning through opponent's Evade/Focus tokens and then hitting them again if they managed to avoid the first volley.

Autothrusters gave a boost to mobile opponents by giving them better protection whilst outside arc. This meant the Falcon's 360-degree firepower was no longer quite so reliable. Also the introduction of Twin-laser turrets meant that opponents could plink off 1-2 hull points per turn quite reliably, even if Han boosted out of their primary arc. That is not to say the Falcon is not worth fielding, it is still a good ship and fun to play. But it is no longer an auto-include in Rebel lists.

FatFalcon + 41 points VCX (Rebel+FCS+Hera+Ezra) are really really strong now.

Why do you say that??

And, of course, a x wing game needs a Falcon. Back in time it was the best ship in the game. We limited this a little not selecting C3PO when flying casual. Now perhaps she needs this upgrade to be considered a good ship. Not tier, but very good, and iconic. You have expended wisely your money, 30 bucks a YT 1300 is a good bargain.

Like someone before mentioned: VCX is very juicy ,and suprisigly mobile in this build, target so your opponent will chase him 90% of the games, while it can make a fool of any chase by Kturning every turn. It doesnt care about red maneuvers. It still hits like freightrain from 4reds+Target Lock+Ezra. In the meantime falcon says hi from behind. And if opponent starts to focus falcon that is way more tanky with evade+c3po, VCX have free shooting range from hers big berthas :)
