My PC's met the recurring villain for our Campaign today - so happy

By LeighPouse, in Game Masters

So after taking out a crew of Bounty Hunters and looting the place, they left the ship to be greeted by their Nemesis and it went PERFECTLY.

It was exactly how I had planned it for months, the Nemesis (A Kel Dor) was insane, intimidating and funny all at the same time. The best part was that once combat started he barely needed to lift a finger to incapacitate two of my guys (while only revealing a fraction of what he is capable of) while the third was just forced to stand by and watch (Bind), it was great for two reasons, first - my villain is a legitimate threat that can return at any moment and second - my guys have learned that even though they have gotten pretty good at what they do, the galaxy is a big scary place where monsters live. MWAHAHAHA

But in all seriousness I am very happy with the way it went, thanks for reading

Last week, I had a slightly different, but still very satisfying experience.

One of the guys they had met previously as being a Trooper working for the Empire (former Clone Trooper), came back as about half-man, half-droid. And he had their ship with him. He rescued them from the situation they had found themselves in, but now the players are wondering what the heck they do about this guy. And how do they go on to the next phase of the mission? And what are these two new strange droids he’s got with him?

The funniest thing, and the one I had been working on all week, was their LE-series repair droid. I modeled him on Kryten from Red Dwarf, and his “guilt chip” was in overdrive because he hadn’t been able to stop this guy from taking over the ship. And so he was super whiny, and I really nailed the voice pretty much perfectly. They had to spend some time trying to make him feel better.

Then he said “I would feel much better if you used my real name.” Of course, none of the players remember his name, and I’m hamming this up for all it’s worth.

Then they realize that there’s a new PC that this droid has never seen before, and so they figure they’ll do the introduction trick and get the droid to say his own name. They introduce the new PC, and the droid responded in the same super-whiny voice “I’m just a droid”.

What caught me slightly off-guard was that the player who — not missing a beat — went into the line from Notting Hill and said “I'm also just a guy, standing in front of a droid, asking him for love.” I didn’t quite know what to do with someone who instantly got the quote I was referring to, so the game ended there.

I must admit, this game is a blast, but I am quickly running out of story for them. Once they finish this mission, I have no clue what I’m going to do.

Gotta love a bit of Red Dwarf

I can't wait to introduce my BBG into the storyline I have come up with...it sounds like it's going to be quite similar to yours where he is much more powerful than the PC's even though they think they're hot stuff. :D

LeighPouse would you mind posting your stats for the nemesis, just to see what you gave him that allowed him to take them out so quickly.

I tried to do the same with a deathstroke-esque character I made myself awhile back and in order to get him to be able to take on the group that I had he needed upwards of 5+ on all stats and above 20 on both thresholds, not to mention ridiculous soak and defense with expertly crafted guns, armor, and melee weapons

(Of course this is before I learned the lesson of nemeses with minions, tons of minions, are the way to go just so they aren't one offed. I know better now haha)

The Story

I know he seems extremely OP but he is meant to be defeated over our whole campaign. During their first encounter he only revealed Lightning, Bind & Move (bind was used to keep one of the PC's in place and move was only used to throw a gun from someone's hand). I allowed him to bid for two initiative slots instead of getting an extra turn at the end of the round ala the RAW. The only weapons he used in the fight were his vibrosword and he still won :).

Hope this helps

Oh and btw, a Ziost Lightsabre is taken from SWTOR (It has Lightning coming from the hilt, hence the stun quality)
