My A Wing musings...

By Red 7, in X-Wing

Have any of you tried 6 prototypes with refit? You can even put autothrusters on 5 of them. I'm considering trying it but I'd have to buy 2 more A wings and I'm not sure it's worth it. It could be a fun rebel swarm though.

I have, and I believe better is to upgrade 1 of them to Jake, or 2 of them to Greens and give those ship(s) PtL. The extra punch goes a long way, and having a couple of ships that do something beyond just move and shoot makes the squad much more interesting to fly. :)

Thanks for the advise! still not sure I want to buy 2 more A wings, but I haven't ruled it out yet.

Why not just borrow a couple of A-Wings from friends/your gaming community to try it out first?

Or you can grab VASSAL and play with whatever you like, whenever you like. ;)

Is it hard to use Vassal? Do you need to install it?

I have heard about it but haven't had the chance to look into it as yet.

Is it hard to use? Both yes and no. There's no single feature that's particularly complicated, but there are a lot of features which can be a little overwhelming. There are shortcut sheets in-game to make it easier.

You do need to install it, yes.

EDIT: This tutorial here goes through just about everything.

Today I had great success with:

Tycho

Title

Rage

PTL

Prockets

Autothrusters

I've been enjoying this a lot lately. No need to target lock, just evade/focus or boost focus.

On your original list i would get veteran instincs on Jake, so he can move out of arcs. Also chane the shield upgrades for hull upgrades (or Autothrustes if you have them). Then if you have rage, angry tycho is really fun to play. Take a look at this.

Here is my latest build!

It is actually A LOT of fun, AND I have done very well with it.

Jake Farrell + Push the Limit + Chardaan Refit + Shield Upgrade + A-Wing Test Pilot + Veteran Instincts

Han Solo + Push the Limit + Nien Nunb + Luke Skywalker + Engine Upgrade + Millennium Falcon

I just played the 5 Prototype Pilots with Prockets and had a BLAST! (Literally!!! :P )

I took out the below list, and only lost 1 A-Wing!!!:

Omega Leader, Juke, Comm relay

Captain Yorr and Emp Palpatine

Whisper, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Cloaking Device, Agent Kallus

Has any one else played this A-Wing built yet?

If so.... How did you do?

Went back to vi ptl sprocket Jake to back up an autocorrect ghost

After prockets he just makes me pine for the Inq but rebels can't take him so bleh

Jake with boost auto correct (zeb crew + chopper crew + EU) with Ezra to enable ghost/phantom. Jake covers a lot of weaknesses, especially dash, and is the only reliable late game v torp scouts at that point level

Smashes PS 8 Palp aces too

Sucks when you realize youre flying a 33 point tie fighter, but he does well

A guy won our store champ running 5x green squad with chardaan refit, test pilot, adaptability, autothrusters and crackshot. It was impressive to watch. With all the turrets there that day, those autothrusters worked overtime.

I guess that the meta in the area determines what cards/upgrades need to be taken on the A Wings.

I can see how ATs turning a blank to an evade at range 2+ is helpful against the abundance of TLT lists.

Its great to hear about A Wings winning!

Has anyone got any A WING stories of A Wing Aces/Named Pilots winning at a competitive level, or are A Wing lists restricted to having clone Green Squadron Pilot builds?

Someone here won a SC with Corran, Jake, Gemmer...who?

Tycho and Jake are both great!

Also 5 Green Squadron A-wings just won a regional! They are still good!

I LOVE Jake and Tyco! Jake is my favourite

Gemmer Sojan eh!?

Don't see him around much, but perhaps I will take him out for a spin.

My favorite is Juking Jake (sub Juke in for VI) and Raging/Expert Handling Tycho via EI. Gives both of them insane repositioning and action economy.

Vs. TLTs he's an absolute monster, but probably a bit weaker now due to the major meta changes.

Been toying around with this list lately. I'd love to find a way to squeeze in Wired on Tycho, but I'm having a hard time letting go of Push the Limit on the Greens.

I say don't even think about dropping PTL!

Are you set on using Adaptability?

Wired is not worth giving up push the limit.

I'm not set on using Adaptability, but there aren't a lot of other options that fit without dropping something. Obviously, giving up one of the Aces for a third Green would open up a lot of options, but Jake and Tycho working in the same build is very enticing.

Adaptability and crackshot w/AT x5 seems like it's doing work at tournaments right now. Definitely a decent little combo.

Used "Adaptable A's" this weekend with decent results. Took down a Decimator with ease, but had a little trouble scoring damage on Echo. Really digging this build.

So I got distracted playing with T-70 lists for a while, but I am back!

HERE is a SUPER fun 4 A-Wing list that I have been flying lately.

Jake is my favourite so I have taken him as my Ace with A-Wing Test Pilot, Predator, Outflank, Stealth Device, and Proton Rockets.

And he is accompanied by his three Prototype Pilot wingmen with Proton rockets and Munitions Failsafe.

I have been starting the squad off in a offset box formation in order to concentrate fire, and then after the formation breaks up I let Jake out to do his thing.

I know that it isn't anything new, but I am loving the predator/outflank combo on Jake
