I recently got this box set and I'm looking forward to playing it with my family!

However I don't really know much about the Star Wars universe, like who's who or where things are, etc. We have all watched the movies of course, but that's it. Does the $60 core book contain this information or is there a sourcebook or something where I can get it?

The core books really do offter a lot of info on the setting. However, there's a lot to Star Wars beyond the movie, so they writers had to do their best to give the reader a wide view while still staying within their limited page count. So there's enough detail to get the mind running, you'll not find a complete encyclopedia of knowledge.

For that, I recommend Wookieepedia . There's a LOT of content there, but if you start small, you'll be okay.
