Armada officially dead?

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

If the scene is "dead" or non-existent, make a scene. Work with your LGS's, find out what the issue was and find a way to fix it.

I dont have a local gaming store. (Unless you count GamesWorkshop, but I dont)

We have a wargaming club, which is great.

How on earth did you find that Dras? I searched all over! (Its the space between United and Kingdom)

That is standard with the UK. Work with FFG media, get together with the Stores for prize support.

I operate a Business. I'm not a Retailer as such, but I do own a business that is involved, in part, with FFG and the Hobby.

Thus, I familiarised myself with FFG's Retailer and Professional side of things, on the off chance that, one day, I'll have enough capital to actually become an FFG Retailer.

No announcement, no missing half of wave 3.... no hope?

Can I have all your ships? I will take very good care of them. Even Dry dock them when needed for maintenance

Or me! Give me the ships and I'll drydock 'em, and love 'em, and squeeze 'em, and give 'em a coat of paint! I am a good greeblehauler! (I'm appropriating the name for someone who repaints painted or prepainted ships. Yarr, pirate be I!)

On a semi-serious note, yesterday was the first day I went to the shop and couldn't find an Armada opponent at all. So I watched 40K for 2 hours and ended up playing a game of X-wing. Still fun, and do you know what that means?! Dooom! Or nothing. It's possible that meant nothing.

Nothing's officially dead until the support is gone, or the wave just outright doesn't sell at all. Might be unofficially dead of course (in one select area), which is a shame. Give it another full wave and maybe it'll be revived, and maybe you'll find a few more opponents and there'll be some resuscitation. It won't be officially dead until there's no support, no one to game with, and all the copies are in a deep pit next to a mound of decaying Atari cartridges.

Or buried With all of the ET games. :D

Locally it's still a niche game. But I don't think it's dead. But honestly I'm somewhere between wanting to play more and just switching to X Wing to make the most of my gaming.

Major drama over not much.

This games not dead. I only get to play 1-2 times a month with a few friends. We both plan on playing for a very long time. They can stop making ships and new rules, but this game already has enough depth and fleet variation for my friend and I to have many years of battles. Even if the whole world stops playing, Armada will live on in my basement.

The issue is quite simple. FFG needs to make more stuff. The way to fix it, is to make more stuff. However I'm not quitting my job and going to work for FFG in hopes I'll someday get promoted to be the guy who makes more stuff. I don't know why they don't want to just take my money. I'd easily spend 500 bucks a year or more on this game. FFG seems to only want 40.

I think people may be missing the point of the OP I don't think he is saying the game is dead as in no one is ever going to play it. But that FFG has started to mail it in. That how I took it at least.

I think there's a lot of over-reaction to a small wave that is still going to shake things up a whole lot more than many are giving it credit for. I'm concerned if FFG pulls their usual nonsense and puts this out sometime in November. If this is in hand this summer, I think that's fine.

I do wish they would hire someone with a concept of the value of community outreach. I think that would go a long way. But apparently their marketing people are straight up awful/phoning it in cuz star wars sells itself/don't actually exist. Which is a shame, because a monkey with downs (no offense meant to those who suffer from, or have relatives who do) could do a far better job than whatever halfwits they have there now. On the bright side, at least their game designers know whats what, and I'll make that trade seven days a week.

Crabbok, Crabbok, Crabbok, I expected more from you. Well I have an address for you when your ready to mail me your collection of ships :-)

Your issue is that you are not considering a possible explanation. It is pretty simple as well. The possible answer is Logistics.

FFG is having issues supplying models to stores. A possibly low model wave gives them time to stock and build what they need. The ISD after all is a Ghost worth of plastic.

I am reminded of the state of things around the time MtG came out. "D&D is dead man. Put a fork in it, it's done." And I've lost track of how many times Warhammer was "over." :)

Hey Crabbok I just landed in Orlando for vacation, can you point me to these people selling their stuff?

I just reconnected with a buddy of mine and turns out he runs a gaming club in my city. Apparently he is putting on a little convention soon and he says the interest in Armada is huge. I will be demoing and teaching armada to dozens of keenly interested gaming nerds for an entire day, I might have some room in my luggage to be able to bring back and sell some to them at cost to kick start the Armada community.

Armada ain't dead everywhere buddy, yeah FFG put it on the back burner, there is NO denying it no matter what the Self-delusional want to tell themselves. FFG de-invested from Armada for this cycle. Period. But that doesn't mean I did or will anytime soon.

Why would you say that FFG is having issues getting models to stores? What specific problems are you citing? Because none of the stores around here are seeing anything like that. FFG products are everywhere, especially the newest X-Wing wave 8 stuff.

Sure man, check out the facebook group for Orlando Armada, X-Wing and Imperial Assault. There's folks in there looking to unload Armada.

Games never die. I still play Games like rouge trader and its been out of print since 1990 but its not dead and never will be.

Exactly. The games police aren't going to come and confiscate your models. I still play Bloodbowl, Epic and BFG, all games which have been out of print for longer than X Wing and Armada have been in existence.

I must have found the wrong one. Went all the way back to march 1 did not see any armada for sale

What issues am I citing? Let's go with 2015 where they couldn't keep things in stock. I could be foolish but I am sure that anyone who remembers when wave 1 came out the issues stores had keeping the squadron packs on the shelves and could not even get a restock from FFG.

Then there is the X-Wing ships that stores couldn't order, Netrunner, and many other games that took for ever to reprint

I'd say even x-wing is slowly becoming over saturated with models, players and I see new new people join the game and leave it just as quick.

With Armada the price point appears still to be an issue with players picking it up. £65 is quite a lot (discounted) compared to £28 for x-wing. Then also the length of game which in my opinion can be just as long as an x-wing match just people perceive is longer !.

Armada has 12 models compared to x-wings 35+ including epics and three factions it's going to take time to catch up or bot even need that many. How many x-wing models require fixes as they worthless ? Maybe they want to get it right ?.

The one think your correct about is tournament wise there isn't the numbers like in x-wing.

Solution ? Maybe make a better starter box to get people into the game? And make the profits on the expansions ?

As a small business this isn't the case anymore. Stock is easy to obtain especially for armada. There was an explosion just after the movie with people buying everything star Wars but this has died down now. I'm sitting on tons of ft stock slowly selling but can reorder back in with ease.

Yup, it has slowed down which has given FFG the time to restock.
