Defense/HP too low?

By John1701, in Game Masters

What's their Soak and Wound Thresholds?

3 is the lowest soak, 6 is the highest. They all have 1-2 def.

13 is the lowest wound, 17 is the highest.

How do I get their thresholds up?

Oh, and I should mention that this is my first GMing, and before this I had only played a few crappy games on D&D somewhere around 14 years ago. So I apologize if some of my questions are noob questions.

3 is very low for 300xp. 3 is really low for beginning PCs honestly, that's someone who ignored their Brawn and is paying the price.

The Wound thresholds for 300 xp are probably not all that bad, really depends on where you put the 300 xp, and specs.

I'd really suggest they up their "game" on armor and focus on getting better stuff, and modding it. There are Talent trees to accomplish that, but I wouldn't want to monkey with someone's concept just to fix their Soak.

They also need to not ignore their initiative skills, If they can win that consistently and shoot first, don't have to defend against someone who's already dead.

But they are only rivals. And it's not just them, even a team of minions seem like they can be deadly.

Just because minions are plentiful and disposable and faceless, this does NOT mean that they are not potent. Enough of them and even a Marauder starts to feel the burn QUICK.

TL;DNR: Minions are deadly.

How do I get their thresholds up?

It really depends on the tree. Most have talents that increase wounds and strain and a few (very, very tiny few) can increase their soaks.

Or they don't get into fights. My Princess had negligible armor and a soak of 2 (3 with her armor), and when the blasters started flying, she hid behind the Marauder and scathed the bad guys into submission. Very rarely did she ever return fire.

Works fine...........until the grenades comes out.............

Thank god the GM never thought to throw grenades at her as she was strutting around doing her best Jimmy Hart . :)

Thank you! I think this fixes it!

I think the armor mods are one big thing they are lacking, and none of them have very good initiative skills.

I have a question... those of you who have used Droidekas how did your players react when you introduced them and how did you introduce them?

I don't know how difficult or what kind of check is needed to realise these things have shields that require starfighter laser cannons to punch through or they don't have shields whilst in motion...

I always assumed one of these turn up you either got the heck out of there whether just not be between it and it's target or do your darn best to not be anywhere it can draw a bead on you... do you require your players to make a fright check if they recognise what they are or are they that rare you only remind them the next time they run across one?

As I recall even lightsabers have problems with these rolling automated tanks!

They tried to run but were in a canon and didn't have an escape route.

Thats when a player should flip a DP, look the GM in the eye and say "As i retreat up the canyon i notice a narrow crevice that missed our attention earlier, as i squeeze through the gap i find its quite deep, and offers us a way to get a head start on those nightmares" If the GM says NO then they turn and fight (your not being a nice GM), when everyone dies the PC's tell the GM "Well that was a TPK that didn't need to happen"

From what I remember, Destroyers will MESS you up.

Anyone want to take bets on why they call them Destroyers?

Because they're a KISS cover band?

Give the PCs plenty of opportunity via their environment/circumstances to justify Boost dice, or to help them out the enemies in a spot where Setback should be inflicted on their attack pools. Also, remind the PCs to use their Destiny pool to maximum effect - namely to help bring down the more dangerous adversaries quickly.

Combat is deadly, and decidedly so (I liked it about WEG, and love it here). So if the group expects to go into combat and struggle, even when kitted up, then they need to develop strategies among themselves to best utilise their group combat strengths. Assisted actions, aiming, and creative thinking can help weak PCs survive even dangerous and one-sided encounters.
