Top tier team decks

By DukeWellington, in Strategy and deck-building

I am currently in the process of developing and testing a group of decks that can be used in a two handed (probably better) three handed team. I don't have anything close to a final decklist yet, but I wanted to get some initial thoughts and feedback.

The first deck is a valour style tactics deck with Mablung, Aragorn, and Hama as heroes. The main concept is to use Mablung like a kind of Boromir alternative. You get Steward of Gondor on him with Flame of Gondor, Gondorian Shield and other Stat boosters on him and then use Hour of Wrath so that he can then defend and kill many enemies. Aragorn is there to pull additional enemies and Hama is there to bring back Hour of wrath or feint or whatever. Once you get above 40 threat you can just nuke the board every round.

The second deck is a Love of Tales deck. Even after the nerf it is still very good. The hero lineup is Grima, Beravor, and Galdor of the Havens. You include doom cards in both deck (putting the master's voice in deck 1) with as much card draw as possible and songs for color fixing etc. By playing song of kings on Mablung he can play Steward of Gondor, for instance. You put LoT on each lore hero to generate extra resources, then play To the Sea! to put out Gildor and other Noldor allies, including the Rivendell Minstrels to fetch more songs, and Arwen to give Mablung sentinel. The real point of the deck, however, is to draw a d play Advanced Warning as much as possible, hopefully every turn or every other turn, starting by round 2 or 3. Advanced Warning keeps enemies in staging until Aragorn pulls them down. Deck 1 can run Hope Rekindled to find Hour of Wrath or to reduce it's cost, which then can also boost the resources on deck 2.

After playing a bit it is difficult to find space for all the pieces, especially in deck 2. Both decks can struggle a bit with questing and location control so I would probably add a third deck to fill in the gaps. Fortunately the red deck works even better on a 3 handed team. I fell that once optimized this team would be able to destroy every quest in the game including nightmare difficulty and Carn Dum. I would be interested in feedback and I will try to get a decklist out soon.

These sound fun.

I think the sharing of private decks feature on RingsDB may be good for when you do come up with candidate deck lists. That way, you don't have to "publish", but it's still easy for everyone to see them. Plus, the versioning built into the site may be enlightening.

Seems like a very good deck (I love Hour of Wrath, it did once kill 16 enemies in the Battle of Five Armies), but I have a question.

Flame of Gondor

¨Does it exist spoilers I haven´t seen, or do you mean Gondorian Fire ( i hope for the first alternative :) ).

I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Curious how often your actually able to get Advance Warning played in a normal game. That in itself could be a game changer in multi player, especially since you have Aragorn. If someone else had Haldir, you'd be golden.

I definitely think that questing is a weakness, since you have so few allies and no real powerhouse questing heroes. A primarily Spirit deck would definitely be a good addition and could provide some cancellation.

Your comments are accurate. The deck is very consistent in play in Advance Warning by turn 2. Wizard's Voice is used as a backup.

The deck performs better than you would think on questing, mainly because the Rivendell Minstrels co.e down so fast, but you are right that questing is weak. I have found that the two decks work best in a three player team with a strong Caldara deck as the third member, bringing in Northern Trackers and Test of Will. You can also move the blue cards to deck 3 and free up space in the first 2 decks. I just put the decklists out as is because the team can function at a high level 2 handed. 3 handed is even better.

I wish I had time to try them. They look fun
