Wampa - Palp list variations for effeciency?

By Shraken, in X-Wing Squad Lists

OGP - Palpatine W/ Baffles.

Wampa

Colzet W/Title, FCS, TIE MK2

Merek W/Title, ATC, TIE MK2, PTL

This is what I play and I do ok with it, I'm still a fairly new player though.

I am thinking of changing it up for a store tourney but I'm mixed on the last few points which can actually be quite the change.

I'm also dubious if I should even try a new to me build.

Decimator Patrol Ldr - Palp, Fleet Officer.

Wampa

Merek Stele W/Title, ATC, TIE MK2, PTL

This leaves 3 points to fumble around with.

The options that I see:

Upgrade Ptrl Ldr to Oicunn, 1 point spare either keep for ps bid (is it even worth it?, do either a tactical jammer or tracer round.

Keep Ptrl Ldr and give him dauntless. 1 point spare.

Add Targeting computer to Wampa. 1 point spare.

OR

3 points somewhere totally else?

And then there is the Deci vs OGP argument.

Baffles helps OGP sit in a spot for a turn or two and provide fire or take damage to hard turn but I find his combat output to be limited at best, he only has so many opportunities to fire.

I almost exclusively evade on Wampa/Colz/Merek which helps them last a bit longer and for the shuttle to swing around for second passes.

So I gain a more combat effective ship that can provide fire at all times and can ideally send out 2 focus tokens to my other 2 ships each turn but I lose an entire ship and the ability to flip wampa hits.

Thoughts?

The strong combo comes from palp turning a crit for Wampa which sets up colzet for the end of combat. The one ship I would change is Merek. Even with the title card I still don't see his effectiveness come up very often.

You could go with an arc dodger like Fel or Jax.

Fel wouldn't be able to thruster and stealth like normal but there are other choices. Jax on the other hand can fit all of that just at the cost of 1 pilot skill.

I really like Mereks ability, being able to choose the crit I think can be huge to disabling your opponent. Last time I played with him I got a triple crit on a Firespray (with the aid of Palp) and got to pick 2x direct hits and whatever the other thing was and killed him off. 5 damage in one R2 shot.

Obviously that was a really nice scenario that is the exception rather than the rule but I do find him to be effective, even if he isn't an arc dodger.
Every time I play Carnor he has been one shot as soon as he gets in range, like every single time... Wampa sometimes survives to see a second or third round lol

Omega Leader is a solid 4th ship too - with all the heat first on Wampa, then Colzet, it gives you time to whittle down their numbers and leave things ideal for OL as a one-on-one ship who doesn't afraid of anything. Bonus, it gives enough points to put Engine Upgrade on the Palpshuttle and turn it from a slow-moving beast into an arc-dodging, boosting combat maniac that doesn't spend 3 turns turning around.

Another thought I've had but not tested is Inquisitor as 4th ship; with its long-range sniping ability it matches well with Colzet and the Shuttle getting in there and mixing it up.

I'm currently playing:

Palpshuttle, Electronic baffle, APLasers

Inquisitor, PTL, title, Autothrusters

Colzet, title, accuracy corrector

Wampa

Just played twice (got my TAP two days ago), and won both matches against rebels (B-Wing, E-Wing, T70), and Scum (Dengar, 4LOM, binayre).

That list has evolved to include the Wave 8 stuff. I used to run Jendon with AS and the title in the shuttle, and Zeta Leader with wired and weapons guidance. I really enjoy playing it. Wampa is a beast. Helped by the Emperor, and followed by Colzet's ability, I've one-shot a phantom once (direct hit) or blinded corran every turn, or made dengar lose his EPT card and his ability, i just have to practice more with the inquisitor. He died pretty early today.

Personally wouldn't waste time on the cozet gimmick. Wampa is pure power without him; really cozet adds very very little

The other two ships should be juke relay omega leaders and either Vader or ptl inquisitor. No need to waste time flipping crits when you can just kill the bastard

Colzet is a bit of a gimmick but I've one shot the 2HP aces quite a few times with it (TAP/A-Wing/E-Wing)

I might swap him out for something else like OL though. I actually really like Maarek, it has saved my ass a number of times with being able to 2/3 pick direct hits or weapon jams.

There is also the fact that every Palp aces build is almost identical, so it's nice to be slightly different.

Played my 3rd game today with the list above against:

Vader, Squad Leader, title, ATC, EU, Thread tracers

Inquisitor, PTL, Title, AT, Thread tracers

Omega Ace, Expose, Comms, SD

Wampa got 2 crits by his own, not needing palpatine. He killed the inquisitor in 2 turns before he even lost his shields.

Colzet flipped a damaged engine on vader, and put 2 damage on him with the AC, finishing him off. My inquisitor hurt vader on the first turn taking both his shields, and finshed off Omega Ace. The shuttle conceded half points, but it was worth it.

Might not be very competitive, but I'll keep Colzet, he's given me much.

Just saw a video posted 10 days ago of Paul heaver playing that exact list. Wampa, OL, Inq, Palp.

I am still very new to the game, started flying Pauls worlds list, just toget started, worked pretty well for me, as a noob, then this last week, bought me some Imperial ships, Soontir, Whisper, and the Shuttle, and all I roll is blanks, does not matter how many defence dice you roll, when they consistently come,up blank.

So how do you guys stay alive long enough to win the games??

If you're going for efficiency, I think you have to mention Tomax Bren with Crackshot. He is the king of efficiency.

Played my 4th game today with the list above vs Dengar & Bossk, and did really well! I was lucky to only lose half the points of the Lambda, as it was on 1 hull! Wampa+Colzet worked their magic again for an injured pilot and direct hit on dengar! I ended up winning 100-16

Which list did you use Roockie?
