Gank Reskinning

By ZeusFire81, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

One of my players wanted to play a Human with Gank stats. He stated that he raised by a group of scavengers on Raxus Prime, and gave himself cybernetics with scavenged materials. I've never been put into a situation like this before, so I was wondering what you guys had to say. Should I allow him too or not?

If he is trying to disguise himself as a human then use that for the plot. make a bar that is "only humans allowed" and see if he tries to sneak in. Make him roll some deception and try and get in. I play a gank in one of my sessions and I sometimes try to do this.

So he wants to be a Gank that looks human. OK, poof. It's all Gank stats and racials and he looks human. That's easy.

Why not just make him a hairless gank?

Personally, I've reasoned that while ganks naturally have fur, due to their constant cyborging (it's a word!) and armour wearing, all the ganks my PC's have ever run into look like this:

Why not? Embrace whatever makes your players exighted about the game! He is a human cyborg. Just reskin the gank, it is a perfect fit! The CRB says you shouldn't limit yourself to the species in the books. Reskinning is very common.

Maybe those scavengers weren't too good with their social skills (plus robot parts), but were quite intimidating with all of their robot parts

For my game, I made them look human too. In the long run, it doesn't really matter if they look human or not. I mean... No they have to look like what FFG said!!!! Even though the old canon said something else entirely!!! LOL. It's your Universe, make it how you want it.

Looking human does bring quite a social advantage with it, in the Empire at least. You might want to apply anti-cyborg prejudice to balance that.

Well, maby he can compromise and make him near-human?

Human but with gray skin or something?

That way he'll still be subject to prejudice, but he'll still be human.

I think the key thing here is that they look human, but they wouldn't reveal that as they are Gank. It actually really reminds me of Mandolorians in that sense in that their uniform makes a bigger statement of who they are then anything else. Instead, all these rumours are spread about what lies under the mask, when really an entire race manufactured to act as a covert army habours more sinister imperications then their appearance.
