Poe, BB-8, and PTL

By Riptide, in X-Wing

I'm just curious if this article is still accurate or if there has been any errata. It's been awhile since I've played X-wing.

In a nutshell it basically says with this combo you can execute 3 actions off a green maneuver with no stress. Is this actually the case? I did some searching and I couldn't find confirmation of this on the forums, but if this has been asked before I'm sorry and will remove the post if you can reference it. Thanks and have a great day!

Yup. Reveal your green, use BB-8 to perform the barrel roll. Use that action to initiate PTL for a second action. THEN perform your green move and clear your stress. Perform a third action as normal.

Remember, you can only perform the BB-8 move if you're not stressed. So if you end a round stressed, you won't be able to use BB-8 when you reveal a green the next round.

That's correct.

1) Reveal green maneuver.

2) Execute free Barrel Roll from BB-8.

3) Trigger PtL off the Barrel Roll for [Focus/TL/Boost].

4) Receive stress.

5) Perform green maneuver.

6) Remove stress.

7) Perform regular action [Focus/TL/Boost] (as long as it's different from step 2).

Congratulations, you have performed 3 actions (one of which must be Barrel Roll).

But you know what's even better than 3 actions?

A free shield every round.

Hence why you don't see it discussed much. :/

This combo is very potent with wedge.

Was thinking of running that Poe build along with Biggs and R2D2 to get the protection and shield regen. Only problem is Poe is probably hard to keep up with.

I ran Wedge PTL BB8 in a couple games earlier actually. Not bad, but the main weakness is that Wedge is in a T-65, so has less action options and a weaker dial. You are going to get a barrel roll, focus, and target lock action that way, while the T-70 has boost to allow for a lot more re positioning flexibility.

If you are going to use R2-D2, put him on a third X-Wing. Biggs is designed to die, and while R2 might be able to prolong his death a bit (if you are lucky) more often than not you will just be throwing away those points. He's better with a cheap droid IMO.

Engine Upgrade. Makes him incredibly expensive but the boost can make all the difference.

You can do the same trick with Sabine and PtL.

Arguably better as it doesn't need to be a green move to kick in. Stick Kanan crew on her (or something nearby) and she can do three actions with pretty much her entire dial.

Absolutely, the BB-8/PtL sacrifices too much (slots, cost, other options, green) for me to ever pick. Sabine with PtL, on the other hand, is such a perfect fit. Dat movement blossom!

Engine Upgrade. Still harder to fly than an imperial ace, because you need to do your boost/roll before your movement dial move, but still a PS9 guy with double reposition tools at PS9. Wren is just PS5. So good luck with that indeed beautiful movement blossom.

PTL bb-8 sucks in the situation when you have to red maneuver to get back into the fight, as being stressed pre-green = no bb-8 action

which is why Asty is the vastly superior pilot for the combo, plus he frees up poe for regen droids

Yep, but Batwedge (BB+PTL+EU) is much much more FUN
