I'd love to support LGS's more, but **** they never have everything you are looking for. I'll still be doing bulk purchases online.

Really? It's not usually been too much of a problem for me. Then again, game night is Thursdays and that's the day they usually release. I get there late afternoon and am usually golden.
The one thing that's been hard this time around was Jumpmasters, as everyone wants to build U-boat lists. Only a few people managed to get even one.
I've been doing online ordering for the past few waves as I've been tight on cash. I'm doing OK now and I feel guilty for not buying locally. Part of it is getting the cash at one point and knowing I'll blow it before the product comes out. So, the pre order was always good for me.
I just browsed a few items... amazon has better or equal prices and free shipping (with prime).
They even pull the crappy maneuver on some items (War of the Ring for example) to list their product as 10 dollars cheaper. Then charge 10 dollars in shipping. LOL. why even bother with them?
Edited by PinkTacoNever confuse Prime Shipping with actual Free Shipping on Amazon. Maybe you're buying Prime for everything else it provides so the shipping is just a bonus but if you're getting it for the shipping then you need to work that into everything you buy. I know Amazon's increase to the free shipping threshold, along with charging the sales tax up front, has soured me on them a lot even though I have gotten several of my X-Wing products through them.
if you order stuff online with any amount of frequency, prime is the best deal i have found.
I use their other services yes but I also order most things i buy online. both in gaming and things like clothes etc.
Anyone have any experience with the on-the-ground location for CoolStuffInc (CoolStuffGames)?
I'm going to be in Disney next week, but might have a "pool day" where I could maybe rent a car and drive about 45 minutes to their nearest location... If it's worth it.
CSI (as well as miniature market) gives free shipping with orders over $100, which I always manage to hit when I order from them. Otherwise the free 2-day shipping on amazon prime probably wins.
I have amazon prime but CSI and MM have always had slightly cheaper prices and I get my orders within 3 days, 4 at the absolute slowest.
I did use Amazon to get a second armada ISD in time for the weekly game night, free same day shipping feels really silly.
A Gozanti has gone from $45 to $53, small based ships have gone from $9.49 to $11.29, large ships from $18.99 to $22.49.
Even after factoring in currency conversion; these prices are still cheaper than what we're paying down here in Australia. Small ships here are the equivalent to USD18.
Be thankful that you're still getting X-Wing cheaper than the rest of the world.
Yeah, it really does suck to be a gamer in Australia.
If it makes you feel better, there have been gaming manufacturers for terrain and bits in Australia that I balked at when I saw the shipping. It's too bad the gaming companies haven't found a way to better harness Australia's proximity to China by direct shipping to local distributors.
20% seems to be the new norm for discount instead of 30%.
I simply buy even more online to save money. The local game store loses but my family saves money. Thats the order of importance in life.
Of course FFG/Asmodee is making more money from higher wholesale and that's the real point of the price increases isn't it.
Sure would be nice if they would replace my Ghost stand that does not "stand" and makes my ship unplayable. They charge more money now and customer service is non existent. Real nice.

The one in Maitland is the warehouse store, so they tend to have the most stock of everything on hand. Prices in store are the same as their prices online. Beyond their ability to price so aggressively, being essentially an afterthought to the online business, they're just like most typical FLGSs otherwise.
Words that should never escape a gamers lips: I'm okay with a price hike.
Why should you pay more (or less) for something depending on how you bough it?
As far as Asmodee and the protecting of LGS's... well... price hikes.
Thanks Asmodee. I feel much safer playing X-Wing in a shop now.

Ah yes... Whose dinner is more important? Yours or the guy who works at the game store? Your family? His family? Neither? Both?
All those answers are wrong. Asmodee's dinner is most important.
My question is simple: What is the cost of these, formerly, deep discounts?
How do these online stores manage this? Hope for volume?
What about your local store and the lost sales?
The Ex Gamesworkshop players among us know how far this can go, and X Wing is still miles from that worse case scenario.
We've all done it, myself included, but I always feel better when I buy my ships at retail. I look at as supporting my interests, a fun place to play, and the game at large. Not to mention getting it in my hands the moment the money leaves my sphere. All of that is worth a couple extra bucks to me.
It was made very clear at GAMA that changes were coming to online retailers that price drop product at release. In fact it was said that retailers who price slash would be denied product. It was also stated that stores that sell off OP kit material would also no longer be allowed to order them.
I'd imagine that the lower prices will go away as current stocks are run down, with the prices being bumped up upon restock by various resellers to reflect the new more limited discount they can obtain themselves. Older ships, especially less popular ones, will likely stay cheaper for a while at MM and CSI until they need to reorder.
The Price of preorders for lots of FFG products has gone up. Imp Veterans went up 3 dollars. Some of the books still haven't gone up. Might have to bite the bulet pretty soon.

The skinny is, I'll now be even less likely to purchase a product at a local game store. Used to be I'd save 30 bucks or so online, so I'd use some of that savings went I went down to a local store.
If I'm no longer having any money left after making online purchases, I'm not going to be able to buy from local shops unless a reverse beggar hands out money on the drive there.
I bought my Tantavi 4 from Amazon today for $55, with prime shipping.
Cheap!
Chaos Cards, Gameslore and Amazon vendors in the UK seem to be holding the line so far. Ironically my LGS hiked prices shortly after the anouncement. The guy who runs the place was telling everyone who would listen that prices were going up across the board, not just for on-line. I have heard a few similar stories of sharp practice from other LGS' on the general vicinity too.
Anyone know what is going on with Book Depository in the UK? They are not stocking anything that came out later than the Gozanti. It's weird.
I'm paying about $20 for a small base ship in Ireland. I'll take $11 all day long. That difference in cost gets worse as you go to the large and huge ships; Ghost cost me $70, and the Raider came in around $125.
Closest thing we get to a discount online option here is if Amazon is having a flash sale, and even then, they shipping usually breaks the discount to about even.

I emailed them & asked that very question a few weeks ago. The answer I got was not in the slightest way relevant to the question. I tried several times & got similar responses each time.
Bottom line, their customer service people don't know anything beyond what is on their stock list & apparently do not have the nous to make further enquires. I also suspect it's an outsourced, overseas service given the lack of comprehension of pretty basic questions & range of respondents names.
Miniature Market prices went up on X-Wing minis across the board as of the 1st. The Wave 8 prices for ships are now the new normal for all of them. I'm glad I ordered my ships for epic play before the price change.
Prices have now also changed/updated on MiniatureMarket - for the first time since I've been playing, prices are within cents of each other on MM, CSI and Amazon.

I'm not saying this at you directly but to those of this opinion.
This is the kind of attitude that Asmodee is struggling against. When you say things like "30% discount was the old "Normal" and that 20% is the new "Normal" that’s the problem with the system. Asmodee/FFG believe the value of their product is MSRP. When someone consistently sells your product for 30-40% less than that value those sellers are actually devaluing Asmodee's product.
The fact that the constant comments on these forums about this being a "Price Hike" and not a "discount reduction" actually speak to the fact that this idea has already taken root in the community.
Asmodee value the exposure that a FLGS offers their product, as such the wholesale rates that they use to distribute their product between online and brick and mortar stores have been realigned to account for that.
That, and eliminating third party sellers on Ebay and Amazon.
