Gethering Storm Campaign Expansion!

By Facepalm2, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

FFG just announced an upcoming expansion and it is a campaign. But wait... it is not just a book, it comes with cards and tokens and a bunch of stuff!!! I hope there is new careers! this game keeps on looking more and more promising.

What do you all think the expansions content will be? how long do you think the campaign?

Is there anything else anyone wants answered?

The description was underwhelming, I'd like to see some more about what the backof the story is. But that's just me being impatient lengua.gif

The announcement is a good start but it is a little devoid of detail. What is "many sessions"? When is "upcoming" ? What does the box actually contain?

I believe Jay said in the "official" Gathering Storm thread (its a sticky) that it is at the printers and they are expecting a Spring release. I am disappointed that it is a few months away, but as long as the content is there I don't really mind the wait. I can't wait to see more descriptive articles about the campaign though!

The 'storm' is the coming of chaos and all the empire take it as the end of the world, sigmar is supposed to be reincarnated. a chaos lord will rise above the rest and unite the tribes (hus name is archeon or something like that) so unless the name is missleading, it is going to be grim and follow that.

Oh man! You should have posted SPOILER. Jeez, now it's just ruined! You ruined everything. All this build-up and...sigh...

;)

On the update page it mentions componets.

I am simply guessing from what i know by reading warhammer books in the past.

I am just going by what i think makes sense.

Not reaaly a spoiler if i am guessing and that it was explained in other books.

I thought it was something everyone knew, it is what the whole warhammer world is based on...

I think the fact it's a boxed set and not a single book already hints at some fiddly bits being included. Which I have no problem with, by the way.

I figured it might have to do with Storm of Chaos, but you never know really. The Storm of Chaos has kind of been ignored in the latest Codexes from GW. I actually liked the Storm... so its neat they are leading up to it.

Ya same i missed the storm, i read a novel or two about it; Empire in Chaos, was one of them.

Since then i never heard a thing and now this!!! I am really excited.

And the box looks amazing!!!

The thing that makes me not think it is the Storm of Chaos is that they talk a lot about strange weather and the like around the town it is set in, which doesn't sound like anything that happened during that event. Plus, due to its location (i.e. not in Middenheim or any of the northern areas) I would find it odd if it was an introduction to the events of the Storm of Chaos.

I'm thinking it would have something to do with a Tzeentch cult in Stromdorf.

My reasoning? The colour of the box and it to do with strange lightning. It just appears Tzeentchy to me.

I think i remember hearing that before the storm there was a lot of deasiese and suffering and i think i do remember that there was bad weather (i think), it could also refer to the fact that the chaos wastes (i mean the realms of chaos) expand when the power groes strong and shrinks when the power lessens, so someimes the northern parts of the Empire got hit and mutations started and it brought cold with it. Could just be a town in the northern provinces that gets hit, i do not remember it being location specific in the announcement beasides the town name.

I believe they stated it was in Reikland, which is a big region, but not one of the regions really affected in the Storm. I am not saying you are wrong, I am just not convinced that it is.

It just seems more isolated than the beginning of a huge, earth-shaking event such as the Storm of Chaos.

After reading through it again, you have a point, it does seem more isolated; i sort of the of the storm because i think the title 'The Gathering Storm' has been used before in warhammer to reference the storm, o well. Also looking at the box art the 'adventurer's' seem to be fighting beastmen. I assume that if it is not the storm then it is going to be about a small town under siege be beastmen, maybe some of their foul magic is effecting the wheather... actually the more i think of it the more i like that idea now. That would be cool for a starting campaign, the build up to a town getting attacked, town gets attacked , hunt monsters down ect. probaly wouldnt be the whole campaign.

Is it just me or are the beastmen getting extremely popular; honestly; the demo campaign and now this! What about Skaven or undead, ogres gobling, all the other races doing their share of evil to try and take the spotlight.

Its because Beastmen are the next armybook that GW is releasing for WHFB, lol. Seriously though, beastmen are an ever present threat from within the Empire and would be a more common enemy than skaven or goblins, unless you lived near mountains. Seeing that beastmen are present I am going to stick with my original guess that a Dragon Ogre Shaggoth is involved, just to be different.

lol, oh ya i forgot, and i just read that in my newsletter a day ago! Beastmen are cool so i guess i cannot complain; in fact i am thinking about starting a WHFB army of them.

A shaggoth; that would be tough! but awesome.

Skaven got more than their fair share of screentime (especially for a race that does not exist in the first place) in 2ed adventures, IMO. That being said, the beastmen are also pretty popular (undead too, though it's mostly vampires). What I'd really like to see would be a good, meaty campaign with greenskins as the major antagonists. They featured heavily in Doomstones , but apart from that (and Polish unofficial campaign Wladca Zimy ) there is much more evidence on the existence of non-existent Skaven than good ol' grobi. And I'm talking all three editions of WFRP.

what i would like to see after this would be a nice campaign set in Lustria; it bould have several diiferent enemies, not the least of which would be the lizardmen!

Back to the topic:

Does anyone have any guesses what the campaign will be like? I already made my guess earlier.

In The Gathering Storm, the heroes find themselves caught up in a furious storm of events while visiting a backwater town in the middle of the Reikland. Ancient secrets threaten to stir a long dormant evil and rain doom upon the unsuspecting town of Stromdorf.

The Gathering Storm is a complete campaign for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. The story centres around a series of bizarre events that bring the heroes face-to-face with dangerous enemies, moral dilemmas, and the raw fury of nature.

The Gathering Storm has it all. Death. Misery. Peril. Suffering. Disaster. And that’s just the weather.

This doesn't sound like anything linked to the Storm of Chaos.

Whenever I read words like "Long Dormant Evil" I always assume undead.

From reading the announcement, I would say STROMDORF is a small town not a village like Kreutzhofen. As to the rest, an ancient evil could be undead (liches, vampires, lahmian or strigoi), long lost chaos artifact and attendant chaos cult or even one of the nastier old Gods and its resurgent cult, the possibilities are huge. As the general CORE setting is just prior to the Storm of Chaos, my guess is some form of Chaos Cult, perhaps like Shadows over Bogenhafen, but the town may be big enough to have more than one of these possibilities. It would be nice to have a major Greenskin threat though!

It'll be nice enough to just have a location! I love towns and villages etc. looking forward to the maps aswell, as I feel this is something ffg do really well. They should take heed over in the Dark Heresy office
