Adepticon 2016

By Tirion, in Star Wars: Armada

just that the game hasn't gotten much FFG love comparatively.

It's a newer game (not even a year old) and was released close to when FFG and Asmodee merged, as well as when FFG was ramping up its everything. Some delays are to be expected. Comparing it to more established games is only going to make you feel disappointed. The pertinent question is moreso "is the game in a healthy place?" rather than "are we more loved than X-Wing, FFG's current cash cow?"

I think Armada has been a different beast than they expected as they have playtested things. Additionally, as they move away from ships not found in the films, they need to make sure everything has a purpose in the game without completely overwriting what we have now. This is something X-Wing has done very well with, from what I can tell. They almost obsoleted the VSD with the ISD already, so I anticipate them working hard to make sure everything has a role.

I was one of the 5 guys running demos for FFG as part of their Flight Crew at Adepticon. I don't have any insider knowledge, but I knew they were not going to add anything to the case. As for the case set up, EVERY SINGLE EXPANSION AND CORE SET for Imperial Assault, X-Wing, and Armada was on display. X-Wing had an entire case to themselves and had 2 shelves just for their Epic size ships. Armada stuff was near the top of the display case it was displayed, with Imperial Assault on the bottom. All the new stuff (unreleased for IA and Armada, just released for X-Wing) was on the very top shelf of each case.

I can also confirm the Flotillas are painted, and have engines painted in. They appear to have a semi-gloss paint over them, then a slight wash plus the engines. It isn't much, but it is more than the fighters.

Thank you for your commendable service, sir. I playtested Armada at Adepticon last year and I'm in this game at least partially because of someone like you.
