Rebel transport of force awakens core set

By Clutchturtle, in X-Wing

I'm looking at getting either the rebel transport or the force awakens core set. Need some advice on which would be more benificial to get with the ships I already have. My ship list is this:

2 x wings

2 y wings

2 b wings

2 a wings

1 k wing

1 e wing

2 z95

1 yt-1300

1 yt-2400

3 tie fighters

3 tie Intercepters

1 tie advanced

1 tie defender

1 firespray

This includes the original core set and most wanted expansion.

YMMV, but I've gotten far more mileage out of the transport. Neat new X-Wing pilots and upgrades, plus Epic is a ton of fun, and so are the missions that come with the transport.

FA:Coreset is good, too, but I've got a mental block about mixing/matching, and I rarely play Empire anyway.

To be honest, you need both. If I had to go back and choose an order, I would buy the Transport first, even if there is less to initially fly. Then next month purchase the blue core set. You can immediately field a superior Poe Dameron with a Stresshog (of some variety with the R3-A2 astromech). It may not complete your list as most top notch Poe builds require cards from a lot of different ships. Let's face it, there are some really good cards in the Transport. But I really like the T70 from the core... lucky for you, the transport is much cheaper than when I bought it!

Tough call. The T-65 pilots and especially the mechs seem to be VERY good. Likewise, thematically I love the GR-75. However, in my area I would rarely get a chance to fly her. I'm assuming you don't provide all the game supplies for your group. If you do, like everyone says, the extra dice and templates in TFA Core are good to have. Likewise the new damage deck which will become the only damage deck eventually. For pure in game logic I guess the questions are:

1) How often do you want to fly T-65s? And how many?

2) How likely are you to play Epic?

3) Do you want to fly the T70 (Poe or others)?

4)Do you need the mechs to complete a list?

I'm assuming by your question that you are primarily a Reb player. If not, then your priorities will change. I really like TIE/fo.

As someone who is always trying to figure out my next purchase and how to fit it into the budget I appreciate these type of threads. Let us know how it works out.

The transport brings R3-A2 and R5-P9. Probably two of the best upgrades in the game.

The first is the foundation of the so called "most effective" ship among the rebels, the Y-Wing with Twin Laser Turret and R3-A2.

The second is great with Poe Dameron or other pilots able to keep a focus token to the end phase.

The blue core set brings Poe Dameron, a great top tier rebel pilot.

It also brings 6 more dice, the most up to date printed rules, and the new, improved damage deck.

Buy first whatever you think you would like to have as soon as possible. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with either of them, but if anything, I think the transport brings more amount of new stuff to your collection than the blue core.

Thanks, I believe the astromechs in the transport are going to make my decision for me. I already have an extra dice set, and yeah I do fly more Rebel than Imperial right now so the upgrade cards and new pilots will probably benefit more right now. I still plan on getting the Force core set at some point though, feel like I owe it to Poe at least! HA

Both are superb choices. Two details...

- New Damage Deck. If you do not own one, you need it.

- Do you have the option to play Epic? If you can / want to play only six rocks, easy choice.

But in a near futurr, being "hooked" to x wing, you will play both. Droids + the most useful Rebel Epic Ship vs Poe, BB 8, new deck...

Your hangar contains mostly rebel ships. Transport gives you better value.

On a side note, get another K-Wing to enact the greatest bombing runs* in X-Wing history!

*Unless you're up against Deathrain

I don't think the new damage deck is really needed. In casual play, you can use the opponent's deck if you really want to and in tournaments the old deck is perfectly legal, so why worry.

Poe Dameron is one of the best pilots in the game, but for competitive play you may want autothrusters. That goes for several other ships in the list you gave, by the way, so if you really need the cards you could consider buying a Starviper.

I love the Rebel Transport expansion, so I'm very biased towards it. But with good reason; the X-Wing pilots are good, the Transport is a great option for Epic Play and it has some really good Astromechs.

Although I love the GR75, it takes a long time to play 300 points. 200 is a little easier on the time.

I'd go with Force Awakens... And an extra Tie FO if you like those. Or a T-70 expo.
