Dark Heresy now in PDF!... uh oh?

By Mazinkaiser, in Dark Heresy

I know a couple of people who simply can't get Dark Heresy where they are in the world. One guy is convinced he's the only person in the whole country who owns a copy. PDFs are definitely the way forward. Though I am a little disappointed it isn't updated to include the 3.0 errata.

What'd be extra nice is if physical copies of the book came with a code that allowed you to download the PDF of it for free/at a discount when it is eventually released.

Would be nice...

Paizo does something very similar to this with their new books (Pathfinder stuff). You can opt to buy the hardcopy book, a reduced price PDF or in some cases a bundle deal including both. They require a "personalization" step prior to download that effectively "stamps" every page of your PDF with your Paizo account name (usually your eMail user name) and the date. Helps cut down on bootleg copies circulating (somewhat) so they make more money per title, so they can <gasp!> Make more books!

I don't think it would be that difficult for FFG to do something like that if there was enough demand for it and they get a few months to implement it. Keep in mind that Paizo had alot of money from years of publishing D&D suplements, so they were able to do this alot faster than usual. Not having to worry much about your budget really helps with timetables....

It's not my fault WFRP 3rd is not any good. gran_risa.gif

I'm assuming you haven't actually played WFRP 3rd. It's actually better than 2nd edition, which is saying something since 2nd was so good. So, while DH as it is, is an excellent game, making it more like the new WFRP really wouldn't be a bad thing. I highly doubt that is what is happening, though.

Putting the "uh oh" to rest with this snipped from the WFRP FAQ:

Q: Does this signal a change for Dark Heresy & Rogue Trader?

No. The Warhammer 40k Roleplay system, which currently includes Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader, uses a distinct and different game engine from Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and will continue to do so.

WOOT! gran_risa.gif

So the next RPG will be no "WH40K Roleplay system" but an "WH Horus Heresy Roleplay system" and they will do it in an WH Fantasy 3rd edition style. I would like it.

The Horus Heresy Boardgame is on the way. Let's see if I'm right with the RPG :)

Honestly, it would make a lot more sense to me for a Space Marine themed game to be set then, I can't quite see how actual Space Marine characters would fit easily into the current 40k RP, but in HH days... perfect imo.

The best news I have read all day.

Deathwatch, chamber militant of the Ordo Xenos, fits with the Inquisition theme of the 40k rpg system and lets you play spess mahreens.

Now either this is something they plan to do or I'm imagining things again.

Pretty sure they said the 3 games would be Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, and Death Watch (aka Space Marines gui%C3%B1o.gif).

Should have all the interesting 40k bases covered... well unless you want to play the Hopeless Victim 40k RPG. gui%C3%B1o.gif

HAHAHA! Great post.

It has been my experience that gamers are some of the best & most loyal kind of fans in the world. HOWEVER gamers will also turn on you on a dime. They have so much time & effort invested in your game that it becomes THEIR game.

Seriously - never have there been a more fickle & hardcore fan base then hobby gamers. It comes with the business - and we are all guilt of it at some point in our lives.
