Dark Heresy now in PDF!... uh oh?

By Mazinkaiser, in Dark Heresy

Sweet, so now we got Dark Heresy in pdf form! Could be handy for people who haven't picked this up yet. happy.gif

But like a warp storm appearing in the Calixis Sector, could this be a sign of things to come? We saw what happened to WFRP with a new edition being rolled out...

Are we reading the truth blurred between the lines or have we gone mad with talk of Dark Heresy v2? gui%C3%B1o.gif

I really WANT to buy it!

However, I am apprehensive... does anyone know if it contains the errata?

I am hoping for two things. 1) That it has the errata in it and 2) that it does lead to a 2E, but one fully compatible and just modeled more after Rogue Trader (ie, psy powers changed, talents/skills added, higher play level, origin path and so forth), but to a degree where all the source books retain their compatability.

Yeah, Rogue Trader V2 upgrade with RT psyker system and origin path would be welcomed, but I´m fearing same massive reload/remade as WFRP3E ...

Even if worst comes to pass, I've lived through one death of the Dark Heresy line. I think I'm braced for a second. ;)

LOL. gui%C3%B1o.gif

So how many of you are going to bend over and take it in the keester when the $100 2nd edition comes out? I’m just asking because those fancy cards and custom dice have sharp edges.

Not me. Still playing 2nd edition WFRP... and 3.5 D&D for that matter. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Good grief people - the amount of whinging and whining that went on when FFG took over the line and DIDN'T make the books available as PDFs you'd think that now they are "giving the people what they want" that there'd be a bit of gracious thanks.

People moan when there are no PDfs available...

They moan when books aren't easily available...

Now they moan when FFG try to make an effort to make the line readily available in a format LOTS of people said they wanted!

Just goes to show that you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time and the rest of the time they'll just please themselves...

See my first post. I like that they are in PDF form. happy.gif

The only thing is last time this happened... well... WFRP 3rd Edition. gui%C3%B1o.gif

That's not the concern, Nerd King. The fact that FFG is making PDFs available is great. However, they now have a reputation of only doing that when they are ending a line... WFRP 2, Grimm. And the fact that their PDFs cost as much as some printed books is a little extreme.

But my point is that FFG do something that the customer base says it wants and everyone jumps on it as a negative. Why? Why not just look at it simply as a company trying to meet the requirements and needs that their market place says it wants? People seem far to eager to jump on the "end of the world" band wagon. The setting is "grim dark" reality (for the most part) isn't. Try a bit of positivity now and again guys.

On the price issue, PDF pricing always seems high to me (and I prefer to buy physical books) but most games publishers pdf output is similar in price to the print copies - that's just the way the market currently stands.

Of course I can only speak for myself:

Yay FFG! Thank you very much for giving us the PDFs.

If the errata are in, I WILL buy them and be happy about it. No whining if another system follows.

I like DH, I will continue to play it and PDFs will make my life as a GM soooooo much easier!

RT also has a place in my bookshelf (and I have space left on my hard-drive for that, too)

:-)

I think this is a great step forward, I want to see bundled hardcopy and PDF in the same vein as Eclipse Phase. Though I doubt we'd see Creative Commons Licencing.

Yes, how soon for RT? I'm still waiting for my copy to slow-boat it from the US (because I'm a cheap-skate) but need it now!

This is excellent news. I have just bought my complement of books. DH, RT, and the DH sourcebooks.

It's high-time FFG closed the line. Close the damned line now, and rekindle the market with a revamped boxed edition, with a price tag of a minimum 100$.

Sly dog! I too have a complete set of books, +1 copy of the rulebook; This already has the smell of a dead dog being flogged. A wet dead dog.

I will take the liberty of, for I did not make it overtly clear in my previous post, pointing out that my previous post was one of bitter, bitter sarcasm (or sarcastic, sarcastic bitterness, hard to tell).

Got the answer you've all wanted to hear folks straight from customer service and it's bad news i'm afraid:

I checked with the designer, and he said it contains the 1.0 Errata -
I believe this is the same 'version' as it were that the printed
version we did was (as opposed to the Black Library version). It's
entirely likely it's the PDF-ed direct printer files we generated to
print the book (and not subsequently edited).

I will forward your suggestion to our webcrew however, that is indeed
helpful information to know!

Thanks for playing,

The suggestion I gave them by the way was to state on the web site what version the book is.

Just joining in, sorry. The flavour of the moment is of fervent paranoia/fanboism due to WFRP3 coming out, I love it!

It's not my fault WFRP 3rd is not any good. gran_risa.gif

Darkshroud,

Can you beg on my behalf to update the PDF with the errata and upload the edited version?

*grovel*

Just send them an email yourself asking/begging, they won't bite! happy.gif

Whilst I have to praise them for "getting with the times" as it were releasing the PDF I can't believe they just grabbed their old version and shoved it online. I suppose when you think about it though they'd need to redesign a lot of pages to fit some of the eratta in which would take some time, time that they probably don't have between working on the Haarlock stuff, Ascension, Rogue Trader and throne knows what else.

Still pretty dissapointing though.

I'm hoping it cost $200!

I doubt it. However I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes extremely difficult to get print versions of the DH core in the near future. Sales of the book were probably already falling before RT was released, now they are probably nonexistent. Retailers probably won't order copies of both RT and DH. This means that another print run of DH in the near future is unlikely. As such it doesn't really hurt them to release it as a PDF.

I wouldn't expect to see a new edition of DH until a year or three after Deathwatch has been released, if then.

I know a couple of people who simply can't get Dark Heresy where they are in the world. One guy is convinced he's the only person in the whole country who owns a copy. PDFs are definitely the way forward. Though I am a little disappointed it isn't updated to include the 3.0 errata.

What'd be extra nice is if physical copies of the book came with a code that allowed you to download the PDF of it for free/at a discount when it is eventually released.
