Turn Order

By Snak, in Battlelore

Can you please tell me the order of these 3 steps?

- Placing Landmarks

- Drawing Cards (Command/Lore)

- Placing Units

I know there is a more "official" set-up sequence breakdown somewhere, but here's one that will do as a reference for now:

thread on old DoW forums laying out the set-up sequence

and here is that sequence:

0. Select Scenario / type of game (normal; CtA = Call to Arms [impromptu or Organized]; Epic; RA = Reluctant Allies)
0.1. Determine number of Lore master levels if applicable
1. Place the board
2. Place terrain
3. Place supplimental markers/terrain
4. Place figures (if a standard game)
4.1 Select order of battle (if playing CtA - or skip to step 4.5)
4.1.1 Deploy Scout Guard (if using Epic and CtA / N/A in RA)
4.2 Deploy Guards
4.3 Scout Ahead (N/A in RA)
4.4 Call the Reserve (N/A in RA)
4.5 Call the War Council (in normal games or impromptu CtA, go to step 5)
4.6 Call the Specialist (if playing organized CtA)
5. Pass out summary cards
6. Shuffle & Deal Command cards
6.1. Shuffle & deal Lore cards
6.2. Take Lore Token(s)
7. Read the scenario notes / set unused Command cards next to the board
7.1. Shuffle discarded Lore cards into unused Lore cards and set next to the board
7.2 Set-up Epic Command Rack (if playing Epic)
7.9. Place Landmarks for Level 3 Lore Masters
8. First player starts the game

Thanks to Coltsfan for breaking that all down into an enumerated list

This sequence doesn't account for when Creatures being selected during the War Council phase would be placed on the board, nor when to place those creatures' lairs, but I believe that both of those actions would take place either:

1) during 7.9 Place Landmarks for Level 3 Lore Masters

2) before 4.6 Call the Specialist

or

3) Creatures placed before 4.6, and any lairs placed during 7.9

(option 3 is the one that I recall as being correct)

Also note that this is pre-Heroes, with any set up involved with that expansion not being included.

So, a lot of references before answering your question, but the order would be:

1) placing units

2) taking cards

3) placing landmarks

(See Dan, I knew we drew cards before placing Landmarks ;) )

thanks again for the amazing answer.

Todd, does this list need to be updated with Heroes stuff..like placement of Heroes and items in it as well (I know there is one other item, but can't think of it at the moment). Yeah I know, we need to get together...lovely days this week I see (ugh! - highs of 20s...get out the shorts!!)
