Black Friday and the GoT Metagame

By Stag Lord, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Some thoughts;

The New York meta is constantly honored by how many people tarvel so far at such expense to compete in this event. It was good to see old firends, reminisce about past contests and missing personalities (I actually called somofstarfall and Malkryad over the holiday weekedn - the tourney scene in teh East misses htem greatly) and continue to develop new relationships.

It was great seeing and talking to finitesqaure wolf and his crew - and Erick and I are committed to getting our number at the East Coast events over twenty. Given the growth of the card pool and the reintroduction of the Martells, this is an easily achievable goal. There are at least two more Ny players who should be back regularly when teh Martells hit - Kmac and Milamber. And maybe they will lure SoStarfall back to the scene.

Targaryen now has two disadvantgeous matchups - Baratheon and Greyjoy. Geez the Targ Fury Plot really sucks compared to what they get hit with. still - twn2dn demonstartes that theya re still very much a top House. Their recursive burn is probably the best control mechanic in the game - its better than kneel, given that its infinite. Teh difficulty comes in managing the resource curve - really you have to juggle gold + influence and it would be greta if a Fallow Fields type dual resource provider was available. Crossroads just doesn't quite cut it.

Lannister is still on top.

Treaty decks are strong at the moment, though if aggro decks got a little boost - I still suspect that (-) 5 power condition could really hurt them.

King's Landing could solve the draw problem for a couple of Houses - but as more peoplel start to play it, it will become less reliable.

Location control is more important than ever.

I'm still not convince there is enough cancel in the environment. 75% of the time decks will eb able to get their key effects off, unless you're facing greyjoy. Some character based event control would be welcome.

Thanks again to all who attended. The event was spectacular and the NY meta will enjoy the holiday season secure in the knowledge that the Black Friday Cup has returned home.

I built my first Targ deck this past weekend for our casual gaming. It was heavy Shadows, but was not using the new Kings Landing location, although its obvious I have to try and make it work in the deck. However, because I'm a jerk , I was using the Threat From the North plot that will soon be available in the Martell expansion.

All four of my games were against Lannister, and I went 3-1. It was a limited sample size, but it definitely seems to me that Targ is clearly back into the upper echelon of houses.

And just for a little suspense, I was using an Agenda, but it wasn't the Summer agenda, nor was it the Shadows Agenda.

Was it Winter for the extra (-1) to character STR? I am pretty sure twn2dn went that rout on BF - but I didn't see if he had an agenda.

I agree - I thought (and still think despite my crash and burn on friday) Targ is right there with GJ behind Lanni - and threat may catch them up, becuasse it will take out all Lannis utility weenies in one fell swoop.

I really like running Bleeds out of Targ as well - they already are an influence intensive House and so the added resets are justified since your resource chain is already INF heavy.

no winter or winter agenda, dragon pit was the linchpin

Yes, I was running Winter in my new Targ deck.
