Worth getting?

Is the bundle worth getting? It's got a very hefty price. I don't know much about the system, how is it? Is it only the GM that is supposed to purchase it? or do players need their own copy?

For comparison, I've played D&D in all its incarnations and am playing 4.0 currently. I've also played several settings using Savage Worlds System.

I looked at the bundle and it looks like a board game! The quality looks good, but does the system have mass appeal?

Only need to get the 1 core set as it will handle GM + several players (3 PC's without sharing)... It is not a boardgame in the slightest.. Yes it's worth getting :)

This is NOT a board game. If anything, DnD 4e deserves that moniker.

I wouldn't say it is a board game. But WFRP3 does have many aspects in common with FFG's board game series. To deny this is just being dishonest.

What does this have in common with their boardgames that is patently not in common with other RPGs and in such a way that it couldn't be mistaken for a RPG component?

I have a feeling people are being fairly myopic about what does and doesn't constitute an RPG component in a different costume (example, the ability cards, what's the difference in them being cards vs. a laundry list in a book? Can't a list of feats/abilities/spells for a character be referenced to cards for space conservation on a character sheet? I've done it with RPGs)

It uses a boardgame interface. Many componets that do essentially what pen and paper would do on a character sheet. I'd say half of your character is in the boardgame componets. It is not a boardgame however.

Your best bet is do some research and make up your own mind, the Emperors Decree forum has a bunch of over views of the game from the preview events.

Two main points: It does play like an RPG, and it does contain alot of Boardgame components which basically facilitates the interface for the game that is typically done with paper in other games.

As for who has to buy the game, its a core rules, so that would realy depend on what your groups process is for the usual core rules, it will be the same. So players dont need to buy their own stuff (assuming the GM buys the game), but it can help.

Production quality: Top Notch

Special Dice: Spiffy

Core Mechanics: Solid

I'm not regretting shelling out the 100 bucks one bit. My only regrets are that only 3 colleges of magic/ deities are supported for mages/priests and no elven magic at all.
