Shouldn't players really go out and buy their own set of dice?

By Emirikol, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I know the core set has some dice, but realistically shouldn't players go out and buy their own set of dice? It's pretty much a requirement of all the other games out there and the GM is footing the bill on a SRP $99.95 game right? OR, is it up to the GM to purchase everything for the game?

jh

By the way there are blank dice sold, copy the markings from the set on a printer that can print clear decals, or hand write them, paint the dice. May be cheaper than buying them, unless you dont care about paying $1 per dice, which isn't bad, but looking at the supplemental set for 12.95 you don't get enough dice to make a big pool, so do have your own, and still not need to borrow from the GM i'd imagine you need a couple sets, which will get pricey.

Oooooor, do as my group does, buy the rpg games together as we all are using it.

I game with students. We'll be using a communal pool of dice in all probability. Hell, half the time they can't be relied on to bring pencils

Your group brings pencils 50% of the time? I'm lucky when mine don't forget their character sheets at home :(

Most of our group is buying our own core set. I think Gobbo mentioned to us about buying our own dice at some point. The amount of dice the game comes with is usable for a group of players. Though I know quite a few superstitious players that if you even look at their dice wrong, they have to bless the dice again.

Hence why I keep the character sheets for the group...

If you're GM:ing the campaign then you should put more requirments on your players and not do everything for them. You have certain obligations as a GM, but so do the players. And one of those obligations for the players is to take an active interest in the campaign and gaming in general (which includes bringing their own damned character sheets to the sessions).

I always tried to make the players post their stats online on a forum, so if someone didn't bring their sheet, we could just print out everything from the web.

But even THEN, it was too much to ask for.

So yeah, nowadays, the GM keeps the sheets ever since I penalized a forgetful player by removing ALL of their fortune points for a session. **** it, I talked to the guy right before he left his house to meet up with us!

TBH, it's easier for me as a GM because a) the sheets are there if I need to check what skills the players have and therefore are likely to use and b) the sheets cannot get wet/torn/crumpled/eaten by a passing Chaos Spawn if they aren't being transported from house to house all the time

In my group, the GM (either me or one other guy) brings pencils, dice, books, miniatures, battlemats, etc - anyhting needed to acutally run the game. I'm certain that the two players (the guys who never GM) don't have their own dice for ANY game they play. For one of them, that's 25+ years of roleplaying with other people's dice. I can't see himm buying a set now.

To make up for this sorry state of affairs, someone hosts the game (generally not the GM, but it can be) and provides dinner. Everyone else has to bring snacks (we're getting old, so these are getting healthier), adult beverages (we usually have to be careful we don't go overboard on wine - have to drive home!) and lots of enthusiasm (not a problem). Costs are never equitable (the GMs always buy the gaming material), but once games are underway, the costs get spread out over the group.

You don't really need more dice than come in the box.

Sure you'll pass 'm around a bit but unless your ocd about people touching 'your' dice then it shouldn't be a problem. (And If i had players that compulsive they'd go out and pick up two dice packs on their own incentive.
