Curious about 3E ... examples?

Can someone tell me what careers are in the 3E base set? And give me an idea of how magic works? I noticed the grey wizard pre-gen character has Cantrip, Magic Dart, and Pool of Shadows ... what are those?

Over 100 views and no replies? What gives?

There are a lot of careers in the core set (I believe there is a thread on this forum with them all listed) that I can't really list right now. As far as magic goes in 3E, you get a selection of basic spell cards if you are a wizard as well as the channel power action card. You have to channel power to be able to cast spells. The difficulty for the spell is listed on the card. Of course there is always the chance of a miscast in which you draw a card from the miscast deck with generally unfavorable results. I would tell you what the grey wizard spells are but I won't be getting my core set until later tonight. I hope some of this helps.

Cantrip is a "do something cool" card, similar to the "perform a stunt" card for other actions. In essence, the player can do just about anything minor and non-damaging. Just describe the effects you want. Magic Dart is a basic minor attack spell that every wizard knows. Pool of Shadows is a Grey College specific spell, that is basically an area Darkness spell.

Each wizard has a pool of Power. Spells have a varied power cost. If the wizard doesn't have enough power currently stored, he must Channel Power to gather more before he can cast the spell. Power wants to be at equilibrium, so if the wizard's current power is below equilibirum it will slowly regenerate, and if he is over it will dissipate (unless he tries to keep it).

And priests work in reverse, which is extremely cool.
