Are there any restrictions as to which skills a hero may purchase in RtL, apart from availability by location? I'd have said that you may only purchase a skill you'd ordinarily be able to get in your vaniIla starting set of skills, but I didn't find anything in the rules/errata/faq.

So, is Runemaster Thorn allowed to purchase Parry?

There is a restriction for Feats. Regardlesss of the hero's actual skill set he/she can only draw feats according to the original skill options on the hero card.
