The Beginnings

By RoBro, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Hey, I'm back. I don't know if anyone will remember me but I had a horrible group of acolytes and I asked for advice on how to control them. I kicked two of them from my group and got a new who is setting the example right now. To get everyone back on track I had a super Halloween bash. All the acolytes were in a house and they got to search and set up barricades before hordes of zombies would start pouring in. I did this to refresh all of our minds on the combat rules. They didn't survive past three mutants. That was our first session. For our first real session I had a great Idea for a long long adventure. It wasn't complete but I ran about four hours worth for our first real session.

It began with the acolytes having a dream where they were standing in a great Golden hallway and they were great pillars and at the end of the hall way there was a great golden throne. They then feel a cold breeze roll over there skin and wake up in the middle of a forest. They are laying on soft moist grass and they have no memory on how or why they are there. They see a assassin a few feet in front of them looking down a infa red scope on a long las pointed down the forest. They pretty much keep on asking the assassin how they got there and he thinks they bumped there head in the drop pod because they cant remember anything. Then they ask what they are supposed to be doing and the assassin tells them they were sent to kill the owner of the house the assassin was looking at. They got to the house and killed the guy but found bleeding mirrors and dismantled bodies inside, and thats where we left off.

I know its kind of a lame description of what happen'd but this is what I was thinking and what I want to happen

They are not supposed to be in the inquisition they don't even know what it is. They got dumped in the forest with no memory because the imperial guard wanted to send nobodys to take care of a 100% chance of death mission. They are supposed to kill to someone or something that has relations to deamons or radical inquisition or something like that. I don't know. Any way, after they kill him they get kidnapped my a radical inquiistor and then they are saved by the inquisition and thats how they introduced to being acolytes. And they main goal of the whole campaign will be to find there kidnapper and kill him. I know it really ruff, but thats why I need your help for Ideas. Please, Thank you!

RoBro, here are some of my thoughts on how you can flesh out you rough idea.

From where you left off, have the acolytes grabbed by a extraction team form the radical inquisitor, who would use non lethal wepons like photon flash grenades, shock mauls and such like. The acolytes will then find themselves in an unkown location, and in the presence of said radical inquisitor. The inquisitor will then inform the acolytes they are now working for him, without explaining who or what he is. They will be given some time to recover, then given instuctions for their first task for the inquisitor. He will provide some equipment for them ( i would suggest basic armour like flak, weapons they can use like las guns, stub guns, auto guns, basic medical kit and a few pieces of equip that may be usful to them). The first mission will be some thing straight forward, like locating a small cult of chaos worshippers and bringing them to the Emperors justice. The inquisitor can also remind the acolytes that if they do not wish to work for him, he will have them held responsible for the prior mission, which would mean their deaths.

Once the first mission is complete, have the Acolytes do a few more task for their radical boss, but during these missions have them become aware that they are being watched. To do this, have them notice some one shadowing them, but then he quiclky loses any one who tries to follow him. This person is working on behalf of another inquisitor, who is interested in the activities of their radical boss.

After a while of working for their radical boss, the other inquisitor could have the acolytes approached by acolytes who work for him, and suggested that they switch sides, being given very basic info that their boss is a wanted radical, and it would be in their best interests to leave his service. If reasoning fails to bring the acolytes onto the puritan inquisitor side, you as a GM can either have they acolytes grabbed again, and placed in his service, which may make your players feel used and not in control and create problems in your campaign, or if you feel up to it, have the players carry on working for the radical and see where that takes your campaign.

I hope this few ideas help.
