Radical's Handbook; Worth getting?

By Bad Birch, in Dark Heresy

I notice that a few people seem to have got their hands on it and I wondered how are they finding it? This book is probably the least interesting to me so far based on the subject matter, as it would appear that it covers material that has already been published in the Inquisitors handbook. So prove me wrong, what does this add to the millieu?

I havent got the book yet but i think it would be worth getting. I think i read somewhere that there is more Adavance Rule for Deamon Host ( good if you working Ordo Malius or Heritecus) also new Dark Pack rules, and there should also be New Dangerous Equipment as Xeno Tech and so on. I think maby there also gonna be a new Career Path " Hive Mutant ", not sure its a whole Career path or just a Elite Career. And ofc the new fluf and history that there is about the Radical part of the Inquisition, it would be good for Missions and Campaigens that you would like to run.

Hope its enough answeer to you question ;D

Well, I guess I am one of the people who sees less need for rules on Hive mutants, and more rules and background on hives!

Well I guess that with that you´ll get both:) Dark Holder and Corrupted Blood of Malfi by the way sound to be useful in Rogue Trader games as well.

Still waiting for my copy to come in! llorando.gif

I'll post about it as soon as I get it. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Its pretty useful for running a Radical campaign, pretty useless otherwise (most of the topic matter would get you burned as a heretic) I personally think its descent (3.5 out of 5-would have given it a 4 but I docked a half point for the Sabotuer Advance being listed yet doesnt exist)

Any thoughts on how useful it would be for conjuring up baddies for the PCs to fight? gui%C3%B1o.gif

For that it would be outstanding demonio.gif

Oh my god is this book ever worth getting! YES! BUY IT!

even if you don't want to run a radical campaign, it's a good history of the inquision in the sector.

I love this book. When I first heard of it, I was a bit skeptical, I wanted more background, and more ORKSes... but now that I have it, I can't see running DH without it. Either the PCs are going to take the options in the book, seek out the gear and the resources within, or I'm going to do it.

Either way, this volume gets used every bit as much as Disciples in my games.

Take for example, the Resources. There's a procedure for acquiring the aid of some of these folks. I suspect the same is true of "Puritan Groups" one could hire, or shady operators like Pressure Point. Also, if you can hire a Resource, you should also be able to track them using a similar procedure. How many GMs are going to pass up on making the Resources opponents of the PCs? Not a one, I'd wager.

Good so far, thanks for all of the comments. Is there any new information on the Calixis sector itself or is it mostly NPCs, PC gear etc.?

Info about certain planets? No. Organizations, especially the Inquisition, aplenty.

It has been heralded that the book contains a lot of "character options".

Are this options restricted for "starting characters only" (like complete career pathes; background packages etc.) or does it include "optional ranks" and other kind of options that can be taken up later?

One of my two might be interesting in "going radical", but will be inside of rank 3 after finishing there actual "walk on Dusk". I wonder if I should water there mouthes by telling them to "spare some xp, there is new stuff to come for you"

It has both, you can take character generation packages or alternate ranks. Several more elite packages, and tons of backgrounds and gear. Nothing earthshaking, but a good read, and the best book for archvillains.

In this regard, think of it much like the Career Options presented in the Inquisitor's Handbook . To wit:

Origins

Blighted Schola, Tainted Blood of Malfi, Darkholder, Hive Mutant

Radical Background Packages

Denounced and Condemned (Adepta), Heretical Sect (Cleric), Justice, Not Law (Arbites), Penitent (Every body can play!), Thy Name I Keep (Adept), Untouchable (All but Psyker), Warp-Touch (All but Adepta), Wyrd (All but Tech-Priest, Adepta and Psyker)

Radical Career Ranks

Forsaken Priest (Cleric 5), Heretic Savant (TP 6), Imperial Diviner (Psy5 (some exceptions), Malefic Scholar (Adept 3), Maletek Stalker (Assassin 5), Mortiurge (Arbites 5), Penal Legionairre (Guardsman 1), Sin Eater (Arbites, Assassin, Guardsman 4), Tainted Psyker (Psyker 5), Warp Dabbler (All but those with Pure Faith 6)

Radical Advances (Cost varies)

Sworn Radical, Daemon Vessel, The Exorcised, Mark of the Phaenonite

Would you know more?

Could you expand on those? Specifically the Sin Eater, Maletek Stalker, Daemon Vessel and the new Untouchables?

May the God-Emperor bless you (and turn a blind eye on this radicalism).

Just little question: could you shortly describe Maletek Stalker, Mortiurge, and Sin-eater, please? Other Alternate Career ranks sound to be Exactly What It Says On The Tin

Maletek Stalker

The chosen assassin and favoured agent of the outlawed and malign Phaenonite faction of the Inquisition. A fusion of skill, profane technology and the power of the warp. Warp-powered Techno-Assassins. (Bet you never thought you'd read those words... I didn't think I'd ever type them...)

Mortiurge

Members of the much-feared Arbites Castigation Detachments (ie Kill-teams) tasked with delivering the Emperor's wrath on the recidivist and those who would contravene high Imperial Law. They work alone often as not, they are arbites who do one thing: Kill.

Sin-Eater

These members of the Oblationist Faction, they realize that the only path for them is to sacrifice themselves, to be damned so that the rest of humanity remains pure. They have to confess everything, and are punished for each sin. Afterward, they aren't able to sin any longer. They are effectively dead, remaining as instruments of purgation.

See my other response for Sin Eater and Maletek Stalker... but as to the others:

Daemon Vessel (400-600XP)

Something has planted a seed that might one day germinate into a daemon. Until then, you can call upon its power, but be wary! Each time you do, Corruption creeps in, reach 100 corruption and the character dies; the rest of your group has to fight you in your Unbound Daemonhost form.

Untouchable (400XP)

As you know, they have no soul. This variant is much like that in Something Other Than Human , but a tad broader, encompassing True Faith, Sorcery and warp-based weapons (Daemon Weapons, Force Weapons). There is a side bar that reiterates the GM's role in dealing with things this exotic. The description does mention "savagely more powerful" specimens that will be covered in a future release. Sure is awfully Ascension in here right now....

could you elaborate on Sworn Radical?

It's likely a reprint of the version in Disciples of the Dark Gods; the one I originally included in Something Other Than Human (which I removed when DotDG came out) was extremely similar to the later, official, version.

Well, that reasonably sounds as "Culexus Assasin" to me...

Sworn Radical

You pledge yourself to an ideological faction within the Ordos Calixis, gaining a contact in one of the seven major factions or one of the Radicals Minoris. Ciphers, Forbidden Lore, Paranoia, Hatred (Enemy Faction) and the like as choices for the Elite Advance. The character steps into the politics of the Inquisition, and is a very heavily role-played advance in my opinion. I think if you aren't gonna roleplay this advance, you shouldn't take it just to get the Lores or the Unshakeable Faith.

As an aside, my delay in posting this reply stemmed from attending a screening of Ninja Assassin . Should you see this film? If you like ninjas, see this film. If you do not, stay away at all costs.

It is, now that I o'er glance it again, identical to the DoDG text.
