the movement phase and combat

By GodsWorshipMe, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Now, this may seem like a silly question, but it doesn't appear to have been covered here or in the FAQ, so here goes...

If you end your movement phase in the same location you started the turn, without leaving, and there is a monster there, do you have to fight/evade it every subsequent turn?

Example 1: I evaded the Vampire when I moved here last turn, and I want another encounter here, so I am not moving this turn...

Example 2: I evaded the Vampire when I moved here last turn, and I spend 2 movement points to read my Cabala of Saboth before I have another encounter here, so I am not leaving...

The rules state, "Each time an investigator attempts to leave a location or street area occupied by one or more monster markers..." "...investigator ends his movement in a location or street area occupied by one or more monsters..."

Because it says "movement" instead of "movement phase", my group and I have had some arguments over the letter of the rules vs. the spirit of the rules, i.e. do I have to (1) evade the monster every turn, or (2) evade it once I get there, spend as many encounters as I want there, and evade it to go somewhere else?

You are ending your movement in that location as soon as you declare "I don't want to move anywhere else". It doesn't matter how many movement points you spent earlier, whether it be 0 or 25 (which is the maximum you can have currently if my calculation right now was correct and I didn't forget an card).

You still had movement, even if you decided not to spend any movement points.

Yeah, that's how I see it to. By not moving, you have ended your movement in a space with a monster. While it does not necessarily make sense in the way we see language, this is a game and this is how we've always played it. Usually it's because we didn't close a gate on the previous turn, and there is a monster on that location that we will have to deal with.

Anyone want to take on a rewrite of the rulebook? I guarantee it will you get a lot more fame than another custom investigator that's based on Hellboy.

I, however, guarantee, that a rewrite of the rulebook won't be any better than the original. Have you ever tried writing a rulebook? You may find it's a lot more difficult than you would have thought.

If you'd put a reasonable sum of money into that guarantee to compensate me for my time, I'd be glad to make that a bet ;')

IIRC, you've been trusted with overseeing the new FAQ, so chances are you actually do have some experience with that kind of stuff gui%C3%B1o.gif

Heh. Maybe if I need another procrasti-project.

I've got like 10 procrasti-projects. I can hook you up, certainly.
