Value for 3rd ed. owner?

By silenceindigo, in Talisman

I own the 3rd edition of Talisman; what's the added value for me to buy the new one? Compatibility? Replacement? Additional cards and characters?

Sorry if this was asked before, connection speed doesn't allow me to check archives.

The 3rd edition has some aspects that are quite removed from any other Talisman verison (art, certain rules/mechanics and some other things tossed in to supposedly speed gameplay). Most folks look to the 2nd edition as the pinnacle of the game in the "olden days", albeit with its own issues. The 3rd edition did little to improve the on 2nd edition. It removed many of the things fans loved about the 2nd (artwork) and persisted or made worse aspects that folks disliked about the previous editions. The revised 4th edition will give you a game much closer to the 2nd edition in terms of rules and mechanics, but with some better balance, polish and superb presentation.

Can you clarify what edition is what? I have the GW released version of Talisman that came out in 1993 or 1994. It's got the two supplemental boards on the side plus the tower with the plastic dragon on the top for the centerpiece. Is this the 3rd edition of Talisman that I have tucked away in the back of my closet?

Yup, that's third edition.

For everyone who want to know the difference, between 3th edition and 4th edition revised , take a look here
