The Legendary Master Returns.

By Mt_Do, in UFS General Discussion

With the release of Street Fighter IV on the 17th of February and Gouken being revealed as a new character for the SF series some time ago, I felt it was appropriate to create a card idea for him as well as a foundation or two. I wasn't sure if this should be posted on GD or OT threads, so I figured that I would post it here and just let the mods move it if they feel that it is not appropriate here. Anyways, here is the Gouken character cards idea. Tell me what you think.

*Gouken*

6 diffuculty, 6 CC, +0 Mid block

Symbols: Earth, Void, Water

Static text: This Response ability can not be negated unless your opponent discards 3 momentum.

R: Commit two foundations: Commit one of your opponents foundations. Your control checks gets +X. X = the control of your opponents commited foundation.

E: Uncommit one of your opponents foundations: Your attacks gets +X damage. X = the control of the foundation that was uncommited for this abiltities cost.

Foundations

The Return of the Master

Symbols: Earth, Void, Water

Static Text: If any of your foundations including this one are removed from your staging area, return the card to your staging area readied. The returned foundation will be destroyed after the end of your next turn.

E: This attacks gets -3 damage. If this attack still deals damage, add X cards from your discard pile to your momentum. X equals the damaged dealt rounded down. (Minimum 1)

4 Diffulculty, 5 CC, +2 mid block

True Warrior Way

Symbols: Earth, Void, Water

E: Commit 1 of your Foundations: Your opponent discards two of there momentum. Your attack gets +X damage. X = the control of both momentum added together and rounded down.

2 Diffulculty, 6 CC, +3 Low Block

And there you go. I am off to work now...yay:(

I hope he's got 5 handsize and a health somewhere in the 20s, because his abilities are broken.

I knew I forgot something.

HS 6

Vitality, 24

Broken? If you consider the fact that he commits two foundations for the CC Bonus and uncommit one of your opponents foundations for the damage bonus, he isn't really way too broken. LoL. Still I sort of like the ability, but what would u expect from the dude that made it. gran_risa.gif

How about doing it this way...

*Gouken*

6 diffuculty, 6 CC, +0 Mid block

6HS, 24VIT

Symbols: Earth, Void, Water

R Commit: Beofre you make a control check, commit 1 of your opponents foundations. Your check gets +X. X equals half the control of the commited foundation. (rounded up)

E Ready 1 of your opponents foundations: Your attack gets +X damage. X equals half the control of the readied foundation. (rounded up)

Probably still a little overpowered, but at least it's vaguely close to being fair. Being a 6/24 may balance it just enough.

Actually this is a little more balanced. I like it. Of course Red Lotus would be able to negate it. But hey, it could be nasty.

Dang you learned that him not having a commit cost would have made him bonkers but none the less sounds like fun.

well we are talking Gouken here. Anyways, it was a good thing cetonis set it straight. Would have been broke sauce indeed.

Mayhaps I'll play with the others as well....

The Return of the Master

4 Diffulculty, 5 CC, +2 mid block

Symbols: Earth, Void, Water

Static Text: Whenever one of your foundations would be removed from your staging area due to your opponent's effect or ability, it remains in your staging area instead. Destroy it at the start of your next End Phase.

E Commit: This attacks gets -4 damage. (minimum 1) If this attack still deals 3 or more damage, add 1 card from your discard pile to your momentum.

^Costless -3 damage to all your opponent's attacks is nuts even at 4diff. Also, usually when you redux an attack you simply eat the 1 or 2 point hit, so the triggering of the second part was kind of a matter of course. Now you only get momentum (and not an insane amount) if you take *relevant* damage. Static has the opponent clause added and is cleaned up in general. "Next End Phase" is a turn sooner if it's blown up on your turn, but that's rare and it'd be wierd to keep track of two+ turn countdowns anyway.

True Warrior Way

2 Diffulculty, 6 CC, +1 Low Block

Symbols: Earth, Void, Water

E Commit 1 foundation: Your opponent discards 2 momentum. Your attack gets +X damage. X equals half the combined control of the cards discarded in this way. (rounded up)

^Assuming the lack of "half" was just a typo on your part, (given the mysterious rounding clause at the end) I like this as is. Just a re-templating, and pushing the block a bit more as it does rely on the opponent having momentum which is inherently discouraging.

whoops. I knew I forgot to put commit on the first foundation. My bad. All and all, it is now fairly balanced. Thanks for the input.

i think what makes theses cards fair are their symbols. Void is crap these days, earth isn't quite competitive, and water doesn't need control bonus or dmg pump ( water is loop or reversal). still some nasty cards.
