"2 Days for Crows" - LCG Tournament Report and Notes

By Guest, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Here I am, just for the record, to tell you something about this event, that took place Saturday 21 (yesterday) in Italy.

It was a medium/small event with a single focus: enjoy the whole George R.R.Martin Gaming environment (LCG + BoardGame + RPG).

I'm here just to tell that it was my very first Tournament (I started playin' past year, but the situation in italy is pretty "locked" and we're still waiting for the community to come-back after the preLCG - LCG trauma).

Anyway, I'm happy to say...I've won! gran_risa.gif

I'm not seriously interested in prizes or the like (I've left the prizes to all players), but I like the "competitive" feeling during a tournament (nothing like MtG hate ;) ).

BTW, I thought a little report may be useful...I'll post the DECKLIST and a little description of the games.

We were 8 players (standard number for tournaments in Italy ;) ), but it was a lot of fun.

This list has been tested A LOT and it is pretty efficient.
It's an EVEN-HEAVY kneeler, with a bit of Toolboxing (Carrin birds against seasons, Chella + Refugees for location control, Seasonal plots for season opposing, Milk of the Poppy of Wintertime Marauders, Robb Stark and the like, Varys for mirror match (Castellan's an ally) and other stuff...

MATCHES

We did 4 rounds + Top 4.

TURN 1 - Targaryen Ambush Summer

Slow game, with him killing all of my weenies and me kneelin' everything that jumped in. I managed to save my chars with I'm You Writ Small and control speed up the victory with some unpposed intrigue. I discarded his early Xaro's Home and locked.

1-0

TURN 2 - Stark Bear Island

Bad Match up, I knew it. I tested against my own Stark Control Deck and I hate it. :) I focused on keepin' Bear Island out of the table and keepin' it low on char. I kept some low cost drops to jump back from the reset (which came after a Winterfell Rookery during Challenges).

I did it.

2-0

TURN 3 - Baratheon Summer

I helped this guy with the list and I knew that I had to slow down the game...It claimed something like 9 power 2nd turn. I kept it low on gold by make the Aegon's Garden jump back with Chella and shuffling back the Raven with my Carrion.

I managed to get rid of BOB with a funny synergy I chose to put in: removed a token with the Lion's Gate and shuffled it back with a Carrion.

I did it a couple of times, even with the drawback of "You've killed the wrong dwarf".

The game ended after 5 plots, I think, too much for a bara renown deck.

3-0

TURN 4 - Stark Winter/Control

Strong deck, heavy on defense. Some high claim to close the match and winter effects.

I took a mulligan to start quickly and I did it. He did it too, but not enough to keep me from gaining some card advantage.

I was a bit lucky and it was not during a turn in which I drawn a bunch of useful events and it didn't draw anything to flood the table.

I decided to stall and slow down, claiming 1/2 powers max per round and keepin' my biggest guys to defend.

Game ended after 6 plots.

4-0

TOP 4

And then they were 4:

- Lannister

- Greyjoy Winter

- Targaryen Summer

- Stark Bear Island

SEMIFINALS - Stark Bear Island

He did a mistake at the start: Robb + Narrow Sea. I started with a slow set up...But had a "kneel" event on hand and the northern guy had gone.

I dropped down Chella as soon as I get it, to make Bear Island jump back in his hand as soon as it hit the table.

This game was simpliest cause I made decent draws, he did a Valar when I had something in the shadows and kept the usual weenies in hand to re-start quickly.

FINALS - Targaryen Summer Ambush

The Tournament ended as it started.

We both played a PERFECT game. No mistakes, no rush.

I knelt everything that hit the table just to gain some rounds, sometimes wasting useful events...But It was a good choice, cause the guys I was looking for came out after 3 plots: Bronn and Gold Cloaks...Deadly, High STR, card advantage and, on everything else, NO ATTACHMENTS.

I started grabbing power, with Enemy Informer and Castellan (the badass remained in play for a couple of rounds MAX). Managed to get rid of his defenders with the events and, in the end played Joffrey and grabbed some power with Lannisport.

WIN!

Funny tournament with good players (they're funny guys ;) and funny decks.

BTW, Lanni FTW! :)

It was a wonderful event, with a great nightime with "A song of Ice and Fire RPG" and we're going to do it again next year, hopefully.

Cheers! :)

Did I get it correctly? Have you used Wrong Dwarf on Robb?

Excellent report and shows the power of a good Lanni control deck. I'm surprised that Greyjoy was beat out by Targ, but that is also part of the reason why I don't like relying on Winter in GJ. I prefer either War Crest or UO (or some combination of the two). I may include Carrion Bird, White Raven, and Wintertime Marauder to make things difficult for my opponent if the opportunity presents itself, but none of it is anything I depend on in any fashion, and draws the fear and wrath of my opponent while I ram through challenge after challenge with other characters.

It definitely sounds like a fun time.

I'm the italian Greyjoy player :-)

I won all games in the qualifications also againsta Targaryen Summer.

I was in trouble only in one game against stark cause in 4 turns I draw no characters :-)

I was 0-14 with only carrion bird in play and my opponent 3 big bosses.

I played my Risen for the Kraken and catched Theon seasonal. From there I won in control.

In Semifinals I replayed against targaryen summer.

The player is in my meta and I played against him the last 3 months about 15 times... I always won in 3-4 turns... not yesterday :-)

He had in setup+first marshalling 5 influences in play (red keep included). In Hand he had dragon thief, Queen Knights, 2xforever burning, daenerys chambers with duplicate and flamed kiss.

No way to play :-)

The bad thing is that my girlfriend shuffled his deck... :-)

In the final 3-4 places I bet a Stark Bear Island Deck.

I was a little disappointed about the fact that I lost only one match in the day (I won also a friendly match against the lannister winner) and was the one that was important :-)

the most important thing is that the winner gave to me the printing of the tiziano?s painting (that is the image of wolves of the north) signed by the author :)

relating to the "dependence on winter" I want to underline that my deck relies on it only for marauders and winter armada (that I don't marshal If my opponent use summertime).

Rule by Decree

Ah, yeah, okay, I would not qualify that as a GJ Winter deck. It is conceptually similar to my own decks which may include the Winter Mechanic but only as a way to stick it to my opponent not as a main function.

That is a beautiful start for the Targ deck. I mean it is hard to get a better start and your comeback from the Stark deck was epic. Congrats!

The thing that helped me against stark was that in the 4 turns I had not character in hand, I draw all my warship and support for the harlaw.

I had in play

1x winter armada,

1x Longship Iron Victory
2x Scouting Vessel
1x Longship 'Foamdrinker'

I played my 1-8-2 to gain initiative and I was sure that If I draw a character I would win cause I had also in hand support for the harlaw... Then It comes Theon so my claim 2 was a claim 3 automatically.

So I was very unlucky for the whole game draw, but I was very lucky in draw the only char that could make me win!

No, actually I didn't...I got confused with the Renown stuff in the Bara match and with another issue...It was a Distraction (maybe a The Lion's will) (verified from my personal report sheet where I had written "kneel event"... gui%C3%B1o.gif ).

Sorry for the mistake. :)

P.S. Edited the original report...

Congratulations on the win. Sounds like a good time. I was surprised to see so many Stark decks and so few Lanni and Greyjoy decks. I know Stark is always popular in Europe, but it still surprises me.

I think straight Stark is one of the most solid and strong archetype in the environment...but maybe not so inspiring.

It's strong but not popular...But yes, european players in general (lots of italian ones) use to play it a lot.
