Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Core Set (Game)

Amazon.com Sales Rank:
#1 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Gaming
#1 in Books > Entertainment > Puzzles & Games > Role Playing & Fantasy

I just took this straight from the U.S. Amazon site. I must say, quite impressive!

Congrats FFG!

Props and congrats, FFG!

This makes me very happy :D

Holy crap! An RPG is number 1????

Important to note that it is #1 in the sub-categories that I listen in my OP. Still, at $63 a pop that is VERY impressive.

For fun, a little silly comparison:

The WFRP 3e Core set is 1,950th in ALL Booksales on Amazon.com, selling for $62.95

The D&D 4e Core Rulebook Gift Set is 11,509th in ALL Booksales on Amazon.com, selling for $66.12

In fact, the closest competitor to WFRP 3e in the Role Playing & Fantasy category is in 2,773rd place in ALL Booksales.

I'm getting a little worried if FFG printed enough copies!!!

:)

As long as I get mine...I have kind of a pirate mentality about it: take what you can and give nothing back!

I guess it's good I won't 'need' mine until Christmas just in case. Along those lines, anyone get confirmation from Amazon as to theirs shipping?

Very cool!

It's always nice when something I like actually turns out to be popular, other than those MC Hammer pants I - err... Anyway, I want to thank dvang for helping WFRP hit number one on the Amazon sales charts. I know his demo and enthusiasm for the game sold my copy.

I'm curious, did anyone on this forum "sell" the copy you bought, either through their demo or posts?

Wouldnt a big reason for that be, its the newest game out, and Amazon offer a significant discount to the retail price.

Since from what I understand their ranking is done on a monthly basis.

Down to 12th when I checked. Still very good sales figures for pre-orders, but it seems like a pretty big change over the span of a few hours. It makes me wonder how Amazon computes this and how often they update things.

How often they update is based on how high up the ranking a book is, I belive the top ten are recalcualted each hour, the next 90 each day, the next 900 each week, and so on.

There is a lot of stuff about it here

That's odd...you must be getting more up to date numbers than I am. I still see the same report as I did in my OP:

Not on the forum, but I wasn't planning on buying it until I actually had a chance to play. Thanks to my buddy for convincing me to run it and signing up!

A bit off topic but... are you the same morskitter from under-empire.net because your user name looks strangely similar to some guy on the under empire.

Anyway back on topic: Yay WFRP is awesome! cool.gif

Nope. That's one of the only places on the web where I *don't* have it. We both jacked the name from the same spot, though.

OK, I see the thing you're looking at now. I went to those categories you listed and sorted by Bestselling, then looked at where it was in that list. It is still listed as #1 on the product page though. Maybe that's all time Bestselling? WFRP would have to be going like crazy hot cakes gangbusters to already be #12 in all time bestselling though, it seems to me.

Also, Pathfinder is listed higher in that Bestselling list, but lower on the product page for the Pathfinder book. So I'm not sure what conclusions can be drawn from this.

First of all, Kudos to FFG in that their marketing effort on this game really seems to have paid off.

The sales ranking on Amazon is a bit artificially high right now with all the preorders being added to regular sales, but it's still nice to hear.

Yes, it's realy nice to hear that our beloved system is selling so good. It make me happy, I have ordered my copy a couple weeks ago. I hope I will get it very soon.

Congratulations Jay, FFG and all the fans of this new game. Though it isnt for me, anytime a game succeeds in the public, it helps the hobby overall.

(Grumble grumble)

A very nice climb since the OP. This was lifted off Amazon's site Sunday morning at 0800 CST.

That's a jump of almost 500 spots in two days!

Well it looks like good news ... but it is also bad news for local game shops that cannot compete on price.

I just hope the game industry isn't causing the local game shops to go out of business by giving deep discounts to online retailers.

Not to burst your bubble (congrats to FFG on selling well) but that ranking is for the 4e Gift Set only and 18 months after its release. According to this ranking (updated daily), the 4e Gift Set is currently ahead at 2,417: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/books/16211/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_b_2_3 , with WFRP3e at 2,862.

Currently, DMG2, the last core book for 4e is 2,971st in ALL Booksales, 2 months after its release, and the Player's Handbooks are both at around 6,000th over 6 and 18 months after release respectively. FWIW when 4e was released it was Amazon's 1st in ALL Booksales on Amazon.com.

Seriously, this is really amazing to me, especially considering the price-tag. I've been watching for nearly a week, and although it has dropped into the 2000's a few times, it has mostly stuck between 1500-1900. I only hope that this translates into excellent sales numbers in retail game stores as well!
