Game Support

By wraith428, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

So what else is in the works for this game? Will there be adventures? If so how many and how often? How about campaigns or adventure paths? Will there be any (I know crazy idea considering this is a licensed product) 3rd party support, especially in the arena of adventures.

As a GM who likes to work with published adventures for the time savings I'm very concerned about having adventure material to work with. I've found that when I make up my own campaigns/stories they tend to fall apart after a couple adventures as the creative impetus wears off. I do much better when running a published adventure that I can tweek to fit my party and players.

Anyone know anything adventure support for WFRPG 3rd?

Thanks,

Wraith428

Argh... just noticed I posted this in the wrong forum. Message sent to moderator... hopefully it will be moved.

That's kinda a small list. I know that support for this product is really weighing heavily on my decision to buy or not to buy. If this is all FFG is going to put down in writing before the product hits shelves I'll probably wait to see how it develops. That could backfire if enough people are like me cause then the product won't sell and thus deemed unworthy of continued support... but I'd really like to know what to expect from this product. If its just going to be a stand alone or basic game with a splat book put out every four to six months I probably won't be making the purchase. If its going to be a robust system that is supported with new products every other month I'd be more interested.

I hear you. If it's released slowly, it's really going to have trouble and may just die on the vine. I think that they are probably testing the waters otherwise there'd be announcements for other production materials.

I do know for a fact that there are quite a few things planned for WFRP3e (beyond the toolkit). However, I do not know what they are.

Only thing we know at the moment is that they are working on a campaign with the CODENAME Project Thunderbolt (this is the CODENAME, NOT the acutal name, it will change later).

But for the rest, I'm sure they'll start with the adventure contests again next year.

We know that Halflings will be (re)introduced in an expansion of some sort and that there will be additional careers coming (beyond those coming in the Adventurer's Toolkit). We know that the Core Set includes very few Advanced Careers and although the Adventurer's Toolkits adds a few more, we'll need more advanced careers quickly if games are to progress beyond just swapping basic careers, so hopefully, this product will be an early 2010 release.

We also know that they are working on an adventure/campaign boxed set. What is unclear is if this is going to be a series of boxed sets or a huge campaign set. My guess is that it will be broken down into multiple parts. Three or four $30-$40 adventure boxes will probably sell better than a single $100 campaign boxed set. I would expect that these would introduce additional location and item cards, but doubt it will contain additional careers or action cards. I think the initial campaign/adventure boxed set(s) will help demonstrate how the designers see the game being played and hope FFG release this relatively quickly as it will help set the tone for the new game. As a GM who also likes to use pre-made adventures due to lack of prep time, at least as a jumping off point, I'm keen to see this sooner rather than later myself. Again, hoping this is an early 2010 release and they just have been keeping the progress of its development under wraps.

Lastly, we know the design team is working on something codenamed Project Thunderbolt. Whether this is the codename for the campaign or something else completely different I'm not sure, but as of right now we're looking at at least two or three products coming out in the foreseeable future.

Also, not all of the Colleges of Magic are represented in the Core Set (and I don't think all the deities for Invocations), so we'll need those as well. Whether or not this means that there will be specific releases dedicated to magic and faith or if these will get lumped into more general releases is not yet clear, but I'm betting on the latter. Due to the modularity of the game components, it's easy to package up a few new careers, a few new action cards, a few new talents, a new Spell deck or two, maybe even new crits, locations, and equipment cards in a generic release that has a broad appeal with a little something for everyone. A dedicated boxed set of all the missing Colleges of Magic wouldn't have the same broad appeal and groups might delay purchasing it if no one wants to play one of the new wizard types. A mixed set is more likely to be snapped up at time of release; however, this means that it may be awhile before all the Colleges (and Faiths) are available as we will have to wait for several releases to get them all. Then of course there are some monsters that are missing from the Core Set as well, so these need to make an appearance somewhere. I assume it's in one (or more) of the expansions as opposed to in the adventure(s). While an adventure that introduces the Skaven would be cool, I'm sure a lot of people would complain if the only way to get Skaven stats was via an adventure they had no desire to buy.

I'm hoping we'll get 3 or 4 expansions next year in addtion to the campaign box(es), but that may be overly optimistic.

Yeah it looks like if yer not an optimist about the future of this edition, you might wanna give it a pass. If "offical support" is short lived, it appears that you are left with a partial game, and are at the mercy of fan created material (not that there is anything wrong with thatgran_risa.gif).

Here is to hoping that it is a "long lived" edition, and failing that, they get everything out to get it running on par with previous editions.

Hi

I also think they are planning on additional sourebooks/boxes that contain other races to play, and by that I don`t mean halflings. take wood-elfs for instance, if your thinking of playing such a character the only available place to start as a Wood-elf is Athel Loren. With additional sourceboxes other geographical locations might be presented, like playing a wood-elf from the forrest of Shadows. Maybe including some cultural differences in from of abilities and skills.

I do hope that every additonal sourcebooks to warhammer comes in the form of massive boxes containing addtional cards, careers and tokens, as well as information that is formated to enhance a campaign.

For instance a campaignbox called Strange & Dark Cities of the old world, would cotain at least 5-6 cities with detailed information, maps and locations.
I almost hope that FFG sees their warhammer rpg expansions pretty much like a boardgame expansion. In that case we are in for some excellent treats. babeo.gif

But again very little is mentioned from FFG other than some vague hints, but I bet they have something big in store for us. gui%C3%B1o.gif

The more I hear about 3e, the more this question is becoming vital to my decision as to whether to buy into it or not. Hopefully with the release of the core set, FFG will be more forthcoming with its future plans. I hope they aren't waiting on sales results of the core set before finalising those plans.

Well on the 23rd of october Ynnen said that they are "putting the finishing touches on Project Thunderbolt" which means we are getting a campaign box in the very near future.

And remember everything for this game will be in boxes, so we aren't going to get 12+ annual books or something, but more likely 4-5 boxes which means the release schedule will never be heavy - but each release hopefully will be.

So don't worry so much yet.

How long is if from "final touches" to stores? My guess based on past FFG record it will be at least 4 months.

I don't have enough information to be encouraged or worried.

i think that, as soon as the game is in stores, FFG will reveal a few more of there expansions for this game, and it says it is shipping so just a couple weeks away!

I know i remember hearing that FFG had said that thy have several expansions in the making now; one of them is 'project thunderbolt' but only they know what the rest are, personally i would like to see one that involves Lustria, they could add some lizarmen to the mix, some cool blocations and stuff,( i am a big fan of the lizardmen)

Cool. FWIW I am not criticising FFG for not revealing the information. I am just noting that the information is becoming more vital to my decision whether to purchase 3e.

Given FFG's action in the past on many of their lines, I suspect we'll see something early in the new year about upcoming products.

After all, the dust has hardly settled from shipping the basic set out their doors.

However, they have a pretty good track record of supporting their games, so I'm not particularly worried.

Good track record? You have much more faith than I do.

FFG are known for being merciless on cutting RPGs if they don't immediately show profit. Midnight and Dark Heresy are the exceptions because they sell well. Fireborn, Dawnforge, Dragon Star, Grimm, Anima and Blue Planet have seen little to know support and in many cases have been cut quite abruptly with little forewarning.

Though WFRP3e is likely to sell better given its licence, it is also an unprecedented high production cost for an RPG. As such, I remain undecided until I hear more.

Well, to be fair they do a great job supporting their board games. Since a lot of people call this a board game maybe we can hope for similar support. gui%C3%B1o.gif J/K

Seriously though, I hope to see an adventure module pretty soon after the holidays as I am lazy and take forever to do my own. Then again I haven't done one in a while, so it might be fun to create an adventure in a world I love so much.

To be fair, most of my experience with FFG is through the Dark Heresy and Wings of War lines, which have been well supported over time.

However, the WFRP2 line was well supported before the switch, and they have LOTS of existing material to port over, so I think we can expect good things.

... you call one book, one compilation book and the failed promise of a third well supported?

But yes, I'd expect this to be pretty well supported
