38 point guri?

By churchwarden, in X-Wing

If running her with Sensor Jammer, what do you think of Juke for her Elite Talent? Puts them in a quandary about spending the focus to push damage through, or save it to stay alive.

Starvipers can't evade. It's one of the reasons they are such a "meh" ship without a role. Too fragile to be a heavy hitter, not enough greens to be an interceptor.

add "too expensive to boot" and "forgot their PS at home"

...yeah, don't mind me. I'm going back to the Empire's TIE interceptor where I can Evade in peace and security.

Imo. If you can plan it, one of the best economical versions of Guri is this:

Lone Wolf, Autothrusters. 34 Points.

She will be doing great gaining a focus, letting you do boost or BR. And her defense will be pretty solid.

Not having played guri at all myself, take this with a grain of salt. Depending on what other ships you are flying, you could simply swap out the PTL with lone wolf.

Lone Wolf is a good way to get her targeted as the first ship to need to go down...

I'm new to her as well, but I was thinking Calculation to get a double focus for range 1 and maximize her pilot ability. I can see the lure of PTL though, using the positional abilities plus accuracy is pretty hot.

Any thoughts on munitions on the 'Viper? seems like a quick torpedo could be pretty cool. Actually, Guri and APT could be cool. Expensive though...

APT on Guri is a brute of an attack, but as you note, it's making an already-costly ship more expensive, and making an already-easily-dodged ship more important to dodge.

Which is totally cool with me. I've recently taken a liking to a Guri/Dengar list. If they're trying to chase around a lone wolf, cloaked, autothrustered, barrel rolling, boosting, frustratingly nimble Guri, then they're saving a PS 9, arc-dodging, PWT ace for the end game. I like those odds.

I always find my first few turns with a LW Guri twirling on the spot with the hard 1s anyway for that precise reason. If they want her that bad then they can run the gauntlet to try to claim her and all that.

TBH, usually set up Guri on her own anyway. If they want to go fight her at her best, Dengar will be happy to fall on them from behind and kill them.

I like to run

Guri 30

Virago 1

Crack Shot 1

Sensor Jammer 4

Cloaking Device 2

Autothrusters 2

40 points but she can tear squads apart single handed. This build hasn't failed me yet!

I had mentioned a few posts up about the Flechette Torpedo being essential to my wins with my Xizor list. It's only 2 pts and causes a Stress, even if you miss. The 3 dice are the same as the main attack, except they don't get range bonus if at R3. If used by Guri, she can then get closer to someone that is stressed...or double stressed, by them being a bit more predictable with the green maneuvers.

I agree that APT's are a trap.

I have not flown Guri, but I would think Sensor Jammer as the best EPT. Her PS is in the middle and there are plenty of higher PS enemies out there. You won't be able to get out of arc of everyone. Having the Sensor Jammer can help keep her alive. FCS is probably a second as I've used it a lot for Xizor.

I use Guri Every time. I swear by her. I do find 38 points a tad restrictive on her though. My go to build on her is autothrusters (a must); don't leave home without them. Virago title and Sensor Jammer is the next addition. Yes, Sensor Jammer. I have found that SJ has saved me at last 2 hits and at times upwards of at least 5. It gives the opponent something to think about when taking a shot at my Viper. You can't use the Viper if it's not on the board.

EPT. Now this is the one slot I wrestle with. If I am going to fly her a bit from the others, Lone Wolf is the choice. I do like that it is both offensive AND defensive. LW is a bit trickier to use than Predator, but if used correctly, at range 1 with a TL and LW activated, whoo whoo. Predator comes in a very close second. Wired would be a lower choice for me as I don't find Guri stressed alot and I might do 2 S Loops a game max. Crack is good, but I tend to not like one-hit wonders on my EPT slot (just me). I used Veteran Instincts and Advanced Sensors on an opponent once who flew Brobots. What a surprise that was for him.

With Cloaking Device out, range 3 with CD, Lone Wolf and Autothrusters behind a rock I think I will roll 7 green die. Now THAT is survivability. Yes I know all that is more than 38, but man I'm geeked on the possibilities that would create. :D

Here's a good question.....what are good lists for Guri to go in? I'm used to Prince Xizor and 5 Z-95's (nicknamed "Prince and the New Power Generation").

I have to admit that I prefer 4-6 ships in a list. At least 4. Maybe if at least one of the others is a big ship I could do 3. I don't always feel that having a PS 9 pilot is a must, either.

I wonder if Serrisu would work? She's got a high PS and the Scyk is a good close range fighter. Makes me think of maybe Juke and always taking an Evade with her?

I think I read about one guy from Asheville, NC taking a list to a SC Store Championship with Guri, Xizor, and....something else....and winning. Maybe it was Top 4? It was pretty high. I should look up that list.

Well.... I was thinking of running her with manaroo and a tlt y wing. Manaroo can pass focus and target locks to guri...evades too but I don't know how to get evades onto a jump master. I can drop mana roo to a scout to save 2 points but I don't know if I wanna. Advance sensors lone wolf auto thrusters and title is 38 pts

... I will try that but I think I might try to find the extra point for a sensor jammer

I love flying Guri but she is so pricey it is hard to build a decent list around her. Sensor Jammer is so important on her because, most of the time, it extends her time on the table long enough that she can earn back the points you spend on her. But at 37-40 points she takes up more or similar space than a Vader, Soontir, or Poe but she doesn't have the high PS to reliable arc dodge and avoid getting shot all together.

Ideally I would want to fly her in a four ship list but out side of Z95s it is hard to pull off.

I had mixed results with this:

100 Points

Guri w/ Predator, Autothrusters, Title, Sensor Jammer

Palob w/ Title, Expert Handling, Blaster Turret, K4

Binayre Pirate w/ Feedback Array

Binayre Pirate w/ Feedback Array

So this is a pre Wave 7 list that I played a bunch of times with little tweaks here and there. Palob's ability works well in a list with Sensor Jammer, I had tried giving him Opportunist which is great but the HWK is so squishy that he drew too much heat and got smoked too early each match. Expert Handling is cheaper and a ton of fun, barrel rolling from range 3 into range 2 so you can steal a token and blast the victim with a TL+Focus(most likely) 3 dice attack is great. The Feedback Arrays are there to try and help deal with Aces.

After taking another look at, I might try and fly this again with these changes:

100 Points

Guri w/ Predator, Autothrusters, Title, Sensor Jammer

Palob w/ TLT (and maybe adaptability)

Black Sun Soldier w/ Concussion Missiles, Guidance Chips

Black Sun Soldier w/ Concussion Missiles, Guidance Chips

Guri stays the same but the rest of the list is arguably stronger. Palob doesn't need all the old upgrades to help with TLT shots so I spent those points on the Z95s to bump them up to PS3 and give them missiles. Now they are a threat to anything they can get a lock on and they shoot before most generic TLT boats and have simultaneous fire with Contracted Scouts. Previously the guys I played learned to take Guri or Palob out first and ignore the Z95s, now that isn't as easy. Palob can hang out further away from the fight and the Headhunters pose a serious threat. Just have to hold Guri just outside of or in range 3 until the missiles are away and then let her rush in and try to clean up.

It's all theory and planning, so I don't know if it is any good but if I get it on the table* I'll post in this thread.

*I don't have a lot of time to play, typically once a week, so I don't know when that might be.

Manaroo with dead eye, k4 security droid, plasma torpedoes, guidance chips, over clocked astromech and extra munitions. Thug y wing with tlt and overclocked astromech. ..leaves me 38 puts for guri. I could change the load out on manaroo to proton torps and drop the security Droid and go with r agromech. ... save some pts and then go with something else on guri
