38 point guri?

I have JUST started playing scum. I really like the starviper, but dont see it played at all, so i don't have any ideas on builds. I tried a 39 point version - ptl, adv. sensors, autothrusters, title. It's quite fun, so i want to use it more. Now, a list i am tossing around only has 38 pts. Anyone have different guri builds?

I usually play Guri with Sensor Jammer, Predator, Autothrusters, Virago (and Inertial Dampeners if I can spare another point). That's 40 points though.

Depending on the rest of your list, taking your normal 39 point build and trading PTL put for Lone Wolf might work.

Not having played guri at all myself, take this with a grain of salt. Depending on what other ships you are flying, you could simply swap out the PTL with lone wolf.

I think this is one the better ways to build her. Hits hard enough, and can be infuriatingly hard to kill.

I cannot recommend cloaking device enough on Guri. She's okay at range 3 due to Autothrusters, and she loves range 1, because that's when the feasting begins. But she HATES range 2. Cloaking device both makes your range 3 defenses insurmountable, and the decloak allows you to leapfrog that boring range 2 into the lethal zone.

I don't recommend PtL on Starvipers as their greens aren't particularly impressive. It works, but I like to keep that dial as open as possible.

A strong case can be made for sensor jammers but they're not my style. Guri is very expensive for a PS 5 ship and, while more defense is good to protect your investment, putting her in a place where she can't be hurt is the best defense.

Advanced Sensors allow her to run circles around anything lower PS, and with the boost or barrel roll before or after her maneuver allows her to either block higher PS ships or just be where they can't draw a bead.

So predator for built-in offense, autothrusters for built-in defense, and cloaking device and advanced sensors for positioning.

She is fantastic as the cornerstone to a mindlink squad. Keeps her cheap too.

I'd always avoid PtL as SVs hate stress, Lone Wolf means that she's a lot more survivable (though sometimes you might want to Predator if it doesn't match your squad flying style) and Advanced Sensors means she can still action up before s-loop/bumping or get that great 'barrel roll, hard-1' spin going.

PS isn't a huge issue, tbh. Don't think of her as the worst arc-dodger but the best blocker instead.

I like Lone Wolf/Sensor Jammer/Autothrusters myself. She becomes surprisingly hard to kill.

Yeah, Sensor Jammer is one of those things I see and acknowledge, but pulling a boost into S-Loop to dance around an asteroid and land a few mm behind 4 Crack/Blacks is reason enough to go with Advanced Sensors.

Also being able to bump willy-nilly helps too. Not getting shot at all is always the best defensive modification. :)

I know PTL is not so good on Starvipers. There just isn't enough green and other options are better.

I've not played Guri, but I've played a lot of Xizor. I've always gone with a Flechette Torpedo with him due to the stress he can cause. It's great on some targets and the same as his main attack. I've won many games with Xizor and 5 Z's. It's brutal vs. Brobots.

I'd drop PTL for Mindlink with Manaroo or/and Palob. That is 38 points Guri.

Dice modification is important to Guri, especially in the thick of the range 1 fight. I much prefer Predator, Virago Title, Sensor Jammer and Autothrusters. Maybe in time there will be less turrets, but for now it has been more beneficial than a boost to green dice. Guri needs to be able to modify attack and defence dice... do not rely on naked rolls. Do not rely on being able to get a focus token.

I've been tempted with Attani Mindlink, but I don't have the card yet and am not sure who I want to share her stress with. Really want it to be something that could be a longer range threat that could keep stress cleared easily. I think that ship will be coming, but I'm not happy with my choices currently.

The two builds I've used with good results are:

Predator & Autothrusters- 35 points

Predator, Title, Sensor Jammer & Autothrusters- 40

Great fun to fly, probably one of my favourite pilots. Can be devastating at range 1.

I'm new to her as well, but I was thinking Calculation to get a double focus for range 1 and maximize her pilot ability. I can see the lure of PTL though, using the positional abilities plus accuracy is pretty hot.

Any thoughts on munitions on the 'Viper? seems like a quick torpedo could be pretty cool. Actually, Guri and APT could be cool. Expensive though...

I've ran Guri a lot, these are my thoughts on upgrades for her:

You almost always want Autothrusters because it greatly increases her survivability against turrets for just 2 points.

The next decision for me is to take the title + systems slot or not. Generally it is a good idea if you have the points. My favorite is Sensor Jammer; while it is expensive at 4 points I have seen it negate four or five points of damage in a single match. Even if the attacker has a focus, now he has to spend it and be more vulnerable to return fire. Advanced Sensors makes Guri more versatile in the activation phase but mostly I have ended up using it to help me set up a block by boosting or barrel rolling before my maneuver. This is effective but Guri is awfully expensive to be a blocker. FCS is a great addition to her firepower but it paints a big target on her. The guys at my local store hate Guri because of me, they tend to take her out quickly if possible and sacrificing the defensive power of SJ for FCS hasn't worked out well for me because of that. If you have a bigger threat than Guri to grab your opponent's attention FCS is a great upgrade.

For EPTs Predator and Crackshot are both really good. Even if you never use Crackshot you will force your opponent to spend tokens when they normally wouldn't. If you have other ships shooting after Guri this can work out really well. Lonewolf is also good but tougher to use. LW Guri in a list with range 3 turreted ships has good synergy. Outmaneuver also works on Guri, especially with Adv Sensors because she is so good at getting out of firing arcs and into unexpected spots. You can run PtL but it is difficult. You can't use it every round like you would on an A-Wing or Squint, you have to plan a couple turns ahead so that when you use it you won't leave your self out of position on the next turn.

Frequently you find that you have to boost or barrel roll to keep a target in arc and be at range one. Double focus doesn't happen often, even then you would be better off with Focus + TL or Focus + Boost/Barrel Roll to maybe get out of an arc. If you do get a double focus you probably would want to keep the second one for defense. I'd rather have Crackshot, Adrenaline Rush, or Lightning Reflexes for 1 point.

Guri seems like she was built for APTs, but it is such an expensive combo to pull off. It is 5 dice that are very likely to be converted to hits but she already rolls 4 dice at that range with a free focus so you can have a TL as well. I think the issue is that the kind of ships that you would want to hit with 5 dice are ships that have ludicrous defensive ability like 35-Soontir and if that player is any count he won't let Soontir end up at range 1 in front of an APT equipped Guri.

Basically, I think APTs are a trap.

Mostly agree with Burius1981, although I would drop Crackshot for Wired. Gives Guri a degree of stress protection in addition to her already amazing defence, and allows you to exploit her Segnor's Loops with relative impunity.

when she is the last ship on the board she wont go down easy. against the trop boats with no torps left, TLT and even swarms she just laughs at them. I once played a game against HLC Dash and it took 15 rounds to get her of the board

I love her so much I cant fly a scum list without her

If running her with Sensor Jammer, what do you think of Juke for her Elite Talent? Puts them in a quandary about spending the focus to push damage through, or save it to stay alive.
