Palobs Attani Mindlist

By Angroth, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello everyone.

Since there is a distinct lack in Mindlink Lists I want to share with you what I found to be a playable, competitive Mindlink Squadron.

Total: 100

Kaa´To and the Gand fly as a block, Palob acts as a sentry, skimming the flanks in range 3 using his tlt and providing focus for the squad. He will threaten the opponent just by staying in r3, as the opposing player still has to take him turning inside into account. If Palob is able to steal a focus he will provide it for the whole squad if they do not have any yet, which mostly only works against low ps opposing lists.

Kaa´To can literally copy Foci from the Gand to get a second one and the gand themselves can - provided with focus by palob - use either evade or TL if they want that extra punch in the first exchange (and I am sure you want that).

Everyone has PS5 which is great for flying and attacking first, great action economy and a terrifying offensive potential. Even stress is not that big of a problem: as long as Palob or anyone else in this list manages to fly a green after the whole squad was stressed, that pilot gets rid of it and can provide focus for the whole squadron.

On the downside, collective k-turns are impossible (first one k-turns, gets all networked pilots stressed, everyone else with k-turn will be caught dead in the water), stress can still disturb effective flying and arc dodgers may become a problem if they cannot be catched early.

The list is great fun. Try it out!

Oh, and Greedo can be switched with any other upgrade you want.

Tell me what you think or what you would do different.

I'm a big fan of attanni mindlink, and I think its going to allow some really interesting possibilities for Scum. However, in order to make it work, you still have to take into account all of the popular 'competitive' builds that you will see frequently. Now, if you are just playing casually for fun, then yeah, run whatever! But the biggest problem for Mindlink lists is the fact that they will typically be Pilot Skill 5 (Manaroo is PS 4). Its a good place to be against other generic lists such as Crackswarm and Triple U-boats, but its a terrible place to be against dual aggressors and high PS ace lists. So right away, when making a mindlink list, you really have to think hard about what you can do to make your life easy against your toughest matchups (which will be IG88s and palp+aces).

In your particular list, you really have no answers and so those particular matchups are going to be really rough on your list. Your only real chance of winning is to hope your opponent is really bad at the game (not the best plan!). I've given it some thought, and I see no easy solutions to those 2 particular problems. Even taking the mist hunter title + tractor instead of greedo is really not going to cut it. So while I'm sure its a fun list, I don't think its got what it takes to win a tourney (unless you get lucky and don't meet those bad matchups....)

That might just be the nature of utilizing Attanni Mindlink though. The best ships currently to use them on are those mid PS ships because the named pilots have abilities you normally want to take specific EPTs to compliment them. Not to say there isn't a build that couldn't have an Ace using Mindlink, but it may turn into forcing the use of Mindlink on that pilot instead of actually complimenting them. I'm planning on trying out an alpha strike based Mindlink build that has Palob w/ Mindlink, Cloaking Device & ABT, 2x Black Sun Aces w/ Mindlink, Concussion Missiles, & Guidance Chip, and a Binyare Pirate w/ Concussion Missiles, Guidance Chips & Glitterstim. Just run Palob cloaked stealing tokens in combat until I plan to ABT a ship and unload with Concussions which can change two blanks to hits with its ability and chips then a focus to maximize the potential 4 full hits. Ideally I destroy a ship after the first exchange and clean up afterwards. Aces really don't like Palob stealing their tokens and adding ABT will really scare them away. It's high risk, high reward, and will probably result in faster game times going either way.
